hdri question

#1

so i have set up imaged based lighting in my scene and am getting some very nice renders. i wanted to know if there is a way to have the ibl sphere that gets created to not render. in other words i only want the reflection from the hdri to render not the actual hdr image as a background. any suggestions? thanks.

This really depends on your software! Which program are you using?

maya 2012 my friend

i believe there is an option in the IBL attributes called “visible as environment”. Just check that off and it shouldn’t show up as a background anymore. At least its there in older versions of Maya.

On the mentalrayIblShape attribute tab under Render Stats. Turn of Primary Visibility.

You can also turn off the Primary Visibility in the attribute Spreadsheet under the render tab.

oh yeah, hah…primary visibility…duh. “visible as environment” will make it show up in things like reflections and refractions.
