HDRI Glass Ball - Issues Please Help? :/

#1

Ok… for starters… GRAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLL!

Ok now that that’s out of the way… lol

Anyone able to figure out what in THE heck I did wrong here?

As you can see, the image really doesn’t come out looking like it should:

If you want to look at my scene, here’s the link:

Any ideas why the glass is looking so weird? Any help would be -greatly- appreciated! Thank you!

First of all if you’d like to post a blend file put it here in the future, http://www.pasteall.org/blend/

You’ll have to reupload and pack your texture in it… right now it’s not included.

file/external data/pack into .blend, and then save.

Ok I followed those instructions. Hopefully this’ll work properly now.

May I ask what it is supposed to look like – in your opinion?
Because, looking at your scene and material settings, it renders exactly as I would expect…

The solid glass ball is correctly reflecting and refracting the pink background thing and the surrounding world texture.

Besides, what is supposed to have HDR, here?
I mean, there’s no HDRI to begin with. Just a JPEG set as the world texture.
Or are you going for image based lighting?

I’m afraid, we need more information in order to help you.

Cheers

I assume you’re not happy with the low amount of reflection you’re getting on the sphere.

You may want to go into the reflection amount of the sphere and turn it up, and right next to it turn down the fresnel setting. Right now it’s way too high (5.00) which will mean only the sides will be reflective. Try turning that down to 2 or so.

I also noticed that the sides looked almost pixelated and couldn’t figure out why. It turns out your sphere is super dense and it hadn’t been set to shade smooth (a select all, w/shade smooth. Your sphere should only really need to be a standard UV sphere with set smooth and maybe a 1 level of subsurf.

hopefully this helps.

I’m not sure what your level of Blender knowledge is but you may find this helpful. http://www.blendercookie.com/getting-started-with-blender/
