Most of the modeling was done in 3DS MAX, I’ve used a bit of Zbrush for the rocks.
Final image was rendered in Vray.
Post process and grading in Photoshop.

Took me around 10 days for the whole modeling part, and 5 for the texturing process.

Was fun participating, and I hope joining in on future challenges, if I am not too busy working.

Cheers !

Eddy

I had lots of fun with this one, almost everything is created in Zbrush with exception of the spear blade. I sculpted without symmetry in many sections and alot of things were created out of boxes, dynameshed and then refined. Rendered in Zbrush.

Took me about two weeks to complete in total getting in as many hours as I could everyday.

  Thanks Everyone

Modeling was done initially in Zbrush and 3ds Max was used for retopo. Shading and Rendering were done in Maya, using Maya’s Mental Ray. Photoshop was used for texturing and final composition and Marmoset Toolbag was used for rendering the Wireframes (quick and easy).

Kiki’s dress was created in Marvelous Designer and simulated for her pose. After
the dress was ready, it was imported back in Zbrush and ZRemesher was used to give a clean geometry. The dress is the only piece of the model were auto-retopo was used.

The final details were sculpted back in Zbrush.

Considering only the time that I actually spent on the project, I would say it took me about a week to model Kiki, from initial sculpt to finish UV model, 2 days for Jiji and 1 full day for the Seagull. A total of one day was spent making her assets.

Shading took about 3 days and I would say a week for doing test renders, trying different lights and doing the final renders and composition.

This was my 1st challenge and it was a fun experience to participate. Looking forward for future ones.

Cheers! :wavey:

It was my first challenge here, I found it to be a lot of fun and I learned new things.
It’s also been really great seeing everyone else’s works coming along.

Perhaps 12 hrs total. Started in Zbrush, then 3ds max for topology and rigging, then back to Zbrush for final details and texturing.

Thanks for viewing!

Created in Maya / mudbox, rendered with Maxwell. Took About 2 weeks during sparetime. This was the first time I’ve worked with Mudbox and had some issues along the way with displacementmaps aso, but all in all I really enjoyed working with the programs and figuring out a nice little workflow. Although I did not made all the details I wanted, I’m happy with what came out! Enjoy!

Thanks for a fun mini challenge and I look forward taking on a new challenge soon!

Thanks to Master Lbj, Roger, darthfishpaste, catacaillou and Signe for all the support in finishing this project!

I used ZBrush, Maya and Photoshop.
I cannot really tell how much time I spent on it because never actually measured it, but study and planning took really long and revision to get the expression that I wanted took really long time.

COMMENTS & DESCRIPTION:
Hello,

Ghibli animations have been great inspiration for me! I love every one of their movies! It was really hard for me to pick which one I wanted to make for this challenge. I watched Arrietty a few years ago when it came out. I really loved the movie because of the feeling it set out. It was not really dynamic or action packed unlike some other animation films. But, it said or made me feel something. I wanted to depict that feeling in this character sculpt too. I wanted to study the personality and characteristics of Arrietty before I started to modeling. I did not want to focus on technical aspects of modeling, rather I wanted to focus on capturing the feeling and the moment of the movie that reached out to me. I do not like explaining what my intended feel or how you should feel looking at this piece because I worked on the piece to speak for itself. I hope it successfully transmitted some feelings to you. I still have a lot to learn, but gained so much by working on this project.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy!

We were keen to recreate the very first battle of Porco & Curtiss. So we modeled the two planes and we set them in a diorama. The scene take place when porco's engine got a failure. So Curtiss takes advantage of Porco to shoot his plane.

I learned a lot and it was a great challenge!

My Neighbour Totoro is my favourite of the few Ghibli films I’ve actually seen, so I knew I wanted to model something from it. I was torn between doing Totoro or doing the moving truck from the opening sequence. Even though a few others were already doing a Totoro scene, I still went with it because I had been wanting to improve on my character stuff and I was curious to experiment with fur.

I can’t really say for certain how much time was taken, but I can say that it wasn’t as much as I’d have liked to put into it, even with the deadline extension (thanks again Roberto!). There’s definitely a lot that could be improved but I’m overall pretty happy with the result, and I learned a whole bunch so that counts for something

Notes
Wow great job to all the artists who were working on this challenge! I myself ran out of time even with the extension but posted what I have regardless. I use these challenges as an opportunity to explore and discover new ideas and methods as well as try things that are out of my comfort zone, such as an environment/diorama. My Neighbor Totoro is one of my fondest child hood memories so I hoped I could do the movie justice. I chose a relatively recognizable scene from the movie however it presented itself with a few challenging tasks. The whole scene is wet, the lighting is fairly interesting with how the animation was drawn, and there are three characters. I attempted to keep the lighting relatively similar to how it is in the movie while giving my own twist on Totoro. Posing has never been my strong point so it was nice to try to pose the sisters in a believable way and as it was in the movie. Overall I’m pretty happy with the progress and everything I learned while doing this. On to the next!

ZBrush, Mudbox, Maya, Renderman
