HCR MINI-Challenge #42: Goodbye Ghilbi - Kiki Character Interpretation

#1

Been watching the amazing work on here, now time to post my inspiration and work-in-progress! I’ve been very interested in doing a humanistic/photo-real interpretation of the Miyazaki heroines, so I decided to start with my favorite: Kiki from Kiki’s delivery service. My main inspiration is the darling actress from Pacific Rim fame. She’s so cute!

These are my concept images that I’ve been working from. They were a bit challenging due to the slight age differences…

I also referenced Degas’ sculptures for proportions:

As well as the live action movie for her dress:

Excited to keep working on this project! Good luck everyone :keenly:

Where the model is at currently, from work earlier in the month:

I’ve been working on the body model and head/face separately…next steps will be attaching the two and adjusting topology

Feedback appreciated!

Attached the separate models, and brought it back into Zbrush to smooth out some lumps.
Just finished laying out UVs and planning to bring it into Mari!
Also getting started on the clothes and shoes today.

Started learning Marvelous Designer last night, and with a lot of trial and error I started to get something working! Things to note: model scale is super important for simulations, placement above the origin, as well as moving the arms out of the way so it doesn’t solve on them…

From Left to Right: 1) Started with a bodice, darts, and some sleeves; 2) Model was below the ground plane, so it was solving the skirt as if it was on the ground. Also the arms were in the way of the simulation which produced interesting results; 3) Fixed the model and re-imported, trying out different sleeve designs.

Haha! I also learned and used Marvelous Designer for my Kiki. The software is amazing!

Keep it up!
