HCR MINI-Challenge #42 Goodbye Ghibli - Jiji, Kiki's Delivery Service.

#1

My first post at CG Society.
I’ve been seeing the Ghibli challenge updates on my FB page and I decided I really wanted to have a go at this.
At my work, I do mostly rigging and animation. So my character development skills is still in it’s youth. None the less, Here we go!

I wanted to do an animated Jiji, I figured go an easier character as my time to contribute to this would be limited. I saw RicardoOrellana had done a fantastic job of Jiji to go with Kiki. Hopefully mine can come close to the same quality.

I’m still not happy with the legs, and still deciding to do the whiskers as geometry or alpha planes. I’d also like to do some fur planes to stay true to that anime look.

New topology and some rigging to help with my development.

The planes with the whiskers will be changed to geometry soon.

Thanks for viewing!

With the competition guidelines in mind, I have been moving more towards a posed model. The body and face are rigged so I may still animate him on the turn table if time permits. For now though, this is the pose I’m going with.

Unwrapping with a basic texture has also been done.

Updates for this weekend:
UV map is done, I made a few Morphers for the eye lids too.
tweaked the pose a bit more and have worked on my scene lighting. Also made a bit of a shader to give some mild cell shading.
and the mug!

A simple rig for the mouth.

A CAT rig for my cat rig.

The new pose with lighting and mild cell shader.

The extra time allowed me to experiment with shaders and different poses.

Trying out a contour with some AO

Trying a different pose with the model.

Getting close to what could be the final render, as I’m getting tired of this cat.
Turntable and ortho renders will follow tomorrow night.
