HCR MINI-Challenge #27: 30 Days 30 Models

#21

I would post them as you finish them.
We encourage people to post everyday, to avoid a mad rush at the end.

one more question?any limit to the polycount for the model?
should i post my images as wip thread in this forum as other members does?

#23

I would like to join, I think it should be a good workout.

I wasn’t sure about the “parametric” stipulation and what that meant?

Also, when picking the daily object, do we stay in the same category?
There where less than 30 categories, but way more than 30 objects?
So I guess I’m asking, how do we select what to make from the list?

Lastly, do we need to worry about poly count and topology?

This should be fun, good luck people.

#24

When I say parametric it means a model developed using a core base model that is modified using sliders. That is for us a no no.

You cna pick and choose whatever models you wish. The only advantage of doing whole categories, is that you ear more bonus points.

Good luck!

The models have no poly limit. you can make them as detailed as you wish.
You should post your WIP on you individual WIP thread, and maybe come to this core thread to talk to other members about the challenge.

I was told about this site by a friend of mine, Been teaching myself over the past month, thought i could use a challenge… I hope to get to the silver level, but we’ll see how it goes…

#26

Well I hope you like it.
We tend to have cool bunch on these parts.

Welcome to the fold!

Thanks for the prompt reply, but I just want to be clear on the parametric aspect. You say “sliders” but programs like XSI use sliders that are still considered tools for box modeling. Zbrush has the “primitives” option with more control over the original shape, yet is still very similar to other programs primitive options like Maya or Max.

So in short, does parametric encompass anything pre-made, even basic primitives? Also, would Shadowbox and ZSpheres for Zbrush be considered parametric for making quick shapes?

Sorry for not understanding fully, I’ve never heard the term used before.

-Thanks

#28

Define primitive.

If you say a primitive is a Box, a Sphere, A Thorus, ok fine you can use it.

But if the primitive is a humanoid figure, then no dice.

No worries, thanks for clearing that up.
Let the modeling begin.

#30

i’ve been wanting to do one of these challenges for awhile. i really like this one, if only i wasn’t so busy this month.

#31

yea, ditto.

#32

It’s been soooo long since I’ve done any 3D stuff, but I love ridiculously over-ambitious challenges! (As can be inferred by my achieving what I believe is the only award for ‘Most Ambitious Model’ in HCM history!). (Thank you Roberto for that kind sympathy award!). I really need to get back into it all, so I’m gonna go for Platinum, even though there’s no chance in hell of me achieving it! (edit: Umm, yeah, think gold or silver will be quite over-ambitious enough, will just do what I can do, though probably aiming towards the cheaper metals!). Will be a race against time too, as my first child is due on the 25th Sept.

Is the daily challenge going ahead?

Thumbs up to this thread…

This is a sweet challenge… It’s been a long time since I posted here on cgsociety… It would be a great way to come back here and to keep improving my portfolio… To bad for the not using old models policy considering I’ve just finished a Pencil (done to study shaders)… They say the second time is always faster… lol

only one question… do we have to post a list of what we are gonna model or we can chose on the way?? ( i guess is a stupid question but just to be positive on getting the rules right)…

Good luck to everyone… can’t wait to see all your great models…

#35

nice challenge =)

i’ll try to go for the insects, but what is a Ceterpide? i’ve googled it and found nothing…

#36

oh I forgot… When I model I use Maya to create the model and Zbrush 4 to shape it… (gotta love the GOZ tool… lol)… This shouldn’t break any rule considering that I start the model from scratch in Maya, but again I just wanna be positive I’m getting it right…

#37

Maybe he meant a centipede ?! (http://www.fcps.edu/islandcreekes/ecology/garden_centipede.htm)

not sure thou…

#38

it is called I got to learn to spell centipede

Yes that is quite kosher.

have fun!

#39

can i show the high poly sculpted model in zbrush viewport for orthographic images and beautyshot?
is it allowed to make in zbrush?

#40

Im in on this just for fun, but out of curiousity how does the points system work? I mean you’ve got car brakes as 2 points, and then modelling a nail is equivalent :surprised
