HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: Thundercats "Tigra"

#1

Allright I’ve been waiting for an excuse to do some 80’s style 3D chars for some time now.
As the proud owner of the origional Thundercats series on DVD I will try to do an interpretation of Tigra. Don’t know if I’ll have time to do more of the chars from the series at this time but this challenge is goin to be fun.

I’ll upload my first concept art tomorrow.
So here we go.

Allright here is my take on Tigra.
In the series he was build like a tank… allmost all the male characters were. So what I wanted was a version where he is more gracefull and cat like.
So I drew him with longer than normal arms, big hands with long fingers, long legs and an athletic torso.
In the series we are told that Tigra is the oldest of the survivors from Thundera.
So I wanted him to look a bit older than in the series but I still wanted to stay true to
the costume and overall persona.

I really like your concept, good luck for this challenge.

Alright! Someone is doing Tygra, I was hoping he wouldn’t get left out. Your design makes perfect sense moving away from the classic bodybuilder pose of every male character in the 80s. Good luck on the modeling.

Nice concept. I like your more streamlined approach. For some reason he reminds me more of a Puma rather than a Tiger though. I guess its the color scheme being mainly brownish.

Looking forward to your first modeling shots.
Cheers!

Allright, so today I made the basecage for the hands. I’m usually a big fan of reusing old meshes when I work… No reason to reinvent the wheel everytime you need one. However I decided to do this model from scratch.

Allright not long to deadline… So here is my basemesh for the body.

#8

So… Basemesh is done. Imported to Zbrush and added some polygroups for easy selection.
Did some scaling on the arms and legs. I want them to be longer than on a normal homanoid. I will upload some sculptet stuff very soon.
