alright! Goodluck!:thumbsup:

I’ve spent the evening tweaking Chef Smurf. Sculpted the Apron a little and painted some simple textures in Zbrush, re-exported my disp maps and bump maps at lower rez (1k) Moved a few points around and did random touch ups here and there. I’m happy where he is at now, and I’d like to put a little more detail into his mushroom, time permitted. This will be done only after Jokey and Papa are finished too.

Well done on getting Chef to a happy state, I don’t think I would trust him to cook for me!

I hope you get the other characters in on time and don’t forget the ortho views!

No appetite for grasshopper stew Scott? It is a delicacy in the Smurf village.

-Thanks for the encouragement.

I couldn’t help myself. With only 1.5 hours left until the end of my shift, and actual work related work left to do, I didn’t have much time to get into Jokey, so I ZB’d my mushroom platform. It will most likely be the same platform for all smurfs.

On a side note my previous post had an AO applied to it (with minor level tweaks). This one does not. Preferences anyone?

For myself I find the AO gives him a grimier look, which is kinda what I’m going for, but sometimes AO can actually take away rather than give. Perhaps if I crank up the samples I’ll get a less grainy look.

Notes:

This had been a great challenge and a huge learning resource. Unfortunately I didn’t get to realize my Concept to the end, but I got some nice pieces for my Portfolio. I’d like to thank everyone who directly or indirectly helped me throughout the challenge. Your encouragements and critiques have had a large impact on my performance. You guys Rock :buttrock:

All in all I spent some where around the 100 hour mark for this entry.

Man thanks a lot guys. The encouragement is great.

@Snows:

It makes me think of a doctor Seusse book called “And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street”. For those of you who don’t know it (it is one of his less popular books, yet my favourite as a child), the basis of the story is like this:

The child’s father, knowing his child has a wild imagination, asks him to tell him what he saw on his way home from school. The child sees an old man walking accross the street, but his imagination is so wild that, not only is it an old man, but it is an old man juggling balls; no wait, an elephant juggling balls, etc. etc. until at the end It’s an entire circus that he says he saw.

This tends to be what I’m like when I conceptualize. In my head, at first, it was just a smurf, then 10 Smurfs, then an entire Smurf village, Each with multiple displacement and Normal maps. Oh wait, Gargamel’s house will be in the background…Maybe I’ll model Gargamel and Azrael too…!

Anyway, I gotta realize that I’m not working at ILM with their Power Workstations here. I’m working at home on a 5 year old pc, and at work on one that Might as well be 5 years old.

Regardles I was really happy to get an entry in despite my issues and Appreciate all the critiques and comments, as well as the encouragement I got from you guys. This challenge was a great one and really brought out a sense of community here on CGTALK.
