HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: Original Interpetation of Evil-Lyn

#1

I am going to go for the original interpretation category of Evil-Lyn, from Masters of the Universe. I’m feeling very inspired for this project, and can’t wait to get started, but I’m not going to be able to until Monday. For now I threw together a collage of ideas in my head, that have been flying through my head. The collage is very action figure, and cartoon heavy, but I am only going to loosely base it on these, I just had fun putting this together earlier.

Here are my sketches. I waited forever to post them because I don’t have a scanner, but it is past time that I update this thread, so I apologize for the quality.
So far I have modeled her boots, and body (no head or hands). I need to get my girlfriend to put on some Evil-Lyn-esque make up, and I will use her face loosely for reference.
After I post this I am going to finish up the boots, and throw up another post with them.

I still need to add a spider to the knee-guards, but I’ll probably just do that in Zbrush later.

The colors are just placeholders. I’m hoping to finish all the modeling by tomorrow night, so I can start texturing during spring break.

#5

Yeah Yeah, I still haven’t done the hands.
Next, I’m going to finish up some more details on the corset, then do the hands, arm guard things, Then I am going to go through everything and add as much detail as I can in maya, then take it into zbrush and see what I can do.
Oh and somewhere in there I am going to make her staff, necklace, earrings, and some rings for her fingers.

#6

I realized that I hadn’t posted anything with any topology on it, so I threw this together.

#7

Made the hands, and arm guards.

Also added to the detail on the corset.
I’m getting a weird reflection on the Blinn, but I’m not worried about it because I am going that texture is only a placeholder right now.

I was going to submit what I had even though, I couldn’t get finished, but I had a hell of a time trying to pose her. I kept deforming her body in zbrush when I was trying to pose, it was my first time trying to use zbrush to pose a character, but I thought I’d try because it looked easy enough.
Anyhoo, thanks for all the comments, and criticisms during the challenge
I look forward to the next one.

Here is what I ended up with, and hopefully I’ll be able to do more on this project in the coming months.

you had a good start, nothing a little zbrush love could not fix. Posing in zbrush looks easer than it is, it always takes a lot longer than you would imagine. One thing to note and that I learned the hard way, you have to pose your character at the lowest sub-div. Also having less polygons at the lowest will help in the long run.

Thanks mcteapot,
I will hopefully go back to this project and finish it up next time school slows down, till then I plan on playing with zbrush and getting a little more comfortable with it, so that I don’t feel like I’m working with my left and right hands switched next time.
