HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: "Original: ATTAK TRAK"

newWell this is my firt try on a challenge in this forum, i know i have little time to catch up with others for the release date but Im going to give it a try, if I cant, well nothing is really lost as this is the best place to get feedback and start getting better on what we all enjoy: doing 3D.

Im getting inspired as I was and I still am a great fan of He-Man. As many other took their time to create their versions of the most important characters my idea was to recreate and customize the behicle that blowed my mind when I was a child, the ATTAK TRAK, red, big, that with batteries you could see it climbing throw many of the other figures or any other obstacle you put in when you where playing with this toys.

I just attached a few references i got from the internet.

I just got a few new reference picts of the original attak trak manual found in the www.amosdelretro.com.ar web site.

I started throwing a basic 3d approach yesterday to start with and then putting it on an image editting package to make 2 sketches.

The idea is that this version of the ATTAK TRAK is made more versatile, fast and agile. It has a throwable objtect at the front that can grab anything and then use it to try to blow, turn down or else any object such as castle doors, trees or even enemies. One could use its blades to overrun any enemy.
Its also capable of detaching itself and make it a war bird, thats the second sketch. It can fly as to make it more suitable tu use like the BATTLERAM as it can detach itself but make it almost as agile and strong as the WINGRIDER.

Hope you like it.
Thanks in advance, ill try to make some progress tomorrow.

HAHAHA I’d forgotten all about that vehicle.
Good luck man, that should be fun!

#4

… a little update on the basic shape.

Im currently very bussy but im trying to get some work done. This is a progress on the Attak Trak wheels.
Hope you like it.

Comments are wellcome.
Thanks in advance.

#6

I made a little bit of progress on the front.

Any comments appreciated.

I made some progress, not so much, but something at least to continue trying to get it done for the challenge.

The front of the ATTAK TRAK:

I fixed the shape of the hands where the blades came out to suit a more feline look.

And a general view an approach of what its going to look like:

Any comment is wellcome.

woah another entry! I missed this one, methinks.

This thing is looking badass already, although I think the mat you picked (with the reflection) is distracting and takes the eye away from the shape. Throw on a matcap white clay on it and lets have a looky.

Impressive progress, keep it up!

Thanks for the comment.

Here you go, also i would liketo add that the basic shape of the vehicle is just a low poly proxy as to get used to the average shape form but It could change a bit as other details are going to be added.

Any crits are wellcome.
Thanks in advance

I got little time this weekend so I just could make some sketches to add some conceptual idea of what the cockpit and the back area would look like. The basic idea is to have the two simbols that represents He-Mans power: Sorceress and Battle Cat. Those simbols are going to be really representative in the overall design so I did the concept based on that.

I would like to recieve any crit or comment about this as it may be possibe to change this idea.

Thanks in advance.

I like where this is going!

I had this vehicle too. Was one of the cooler ones seeing as it moved on its own.

Be sure to make it nice and techy detailed! It looks like it’s going to be sweet!

Tweaking the back of the model and putting the cabin stilized like zoar, the falcon representative of sorceress as she leaves the castle GreySkull.

Im about to finish the cockpit maybe tomorrow and finish the movable mechanism for the cockpit cabin.

Any comment much appreciated.

Modified a little bit the back part.

just 2 viewport screens:

I corrected some pinching in the lateral seccion where the weapon mounts and added detail to the seat.

Some new updates, its going really slow as Im just doing and undoing all the time cause what comes as a good idea not allways looks great in 3d.

This is the vehicle steering wheel, its design is implemented as to drive on surface and to fly on air. It has control for the turrents and other buttons to control other systems.

And this is the basic shape that setups the vehicle into a jet fighter.

Thanks in advance.

Looks great so far. Lots of sweet detail, I especially like the threads and the eagle head came out really nice (Too bad no one modeled the Sorceress)!

I just couldnt help but wonder how silly all these MotU vehicles really are. As a kid I sure did not mind. lol

Cheers!

Yup, looks very good indeed and I have to agree with Razor’s Edge, those designs are somewhat peculiar… Anyway, the model is very nice already!

Thanks for the comments.

Didnt had much tiem to invest for almost 2 weeks, so today I have approached the final shape without the detail i would have hopped to get done.

I had a problem with the scene in my computer and its not rendering, it crashes. I managed to get a few renders with a basic material. (actually i managed to render a colored version at least although its not my final vision).

Software and time invested:

I used mostly 3dsmax, rendered with mental ray and used fusion to make some tweeks on the final image composition. The modelling took me about 56 hours going taking little bit too much for what was finally done as I took many steps backward and forward as my original concept wasnt looking as good in 3d and lot of tweeking and improvising was needed. Render took about 25 minutes.

Description:

I got inspired as I was and I still am a great fan of He-Man. The idea was to recreate and customize the behicle that was personally and only used by He-Man when he wasnt riding Battlecat. As a child, this toy blowed my mind when I was a child, the ATTAK TRAK, red, big that with batteries you could see it climbing throw many of the other figures or any other obstacle you put infront when you where playing.
(the warbird version isnt complete at the moment).

I didnt have much time this last two weeks so progress was almost null, but i managed today to do a little progress just to make the overall they way I was looking for. Sincerelly this challenge was a pretty nice thing as it made me stick with something almost when i didnt have time over a complete week and other way I would have thrown it away and start with something else. Im very proud to be here as there was so many excellent choices out there by many other artists that came out as explendids masterpieces.

Congratullations to all who participated on the challeng and good luck.
