HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: Ninja Robots

#41

an update on the enemy. BTW does anyone know how to render with wireframes in maya? I mean we do have to show it’s wireframe at the end right? I’m going to try to finish this, this week since next week I have to start reviewing for exams then vacation!:applause:

#42

There’s a tutorial here on how to render in wires: http://www.andrewklein.net/aiinfo_tutorials.html

#43

hi Blake. wow thanks a lot for that! It’s like a site that compiled all the tut sites you gave me  i think i might actually make it. Finishing this thread this week since I can’t do these things next week for exams:surprised

#44

don’t even ask me why the enemy’s head looks like that because i don’t know too. It looks like some guy from the desert. Now then since I’m done modeling him. Time for the moment. Importing him into cybertron’s scene and duplicating him it twice:argh:. Hope maya won’t close down.

#45

I was finally able to import the enemy and duplicate it. I posed them into their positions already. I don’t know though what camera shot should I take. Any suggestions from the 2?

FIRST SHOT:

SECOND SHOT:

C&C would also be ncie if there is any. Oh you guys can suggested what I could make the floor and background if you’d like because my mind is knda blank at the moment.

#46

Hey James this scene is coming along well. Sorry I dont have any suggestions for your environment because Im not familiar at all with ninja robots. Out of the 2 shots you set up, I like the first one best, however I think for that shot the pose of your main character should change. The reason for this is because the one baddie is attacking, so it would work more if your ninja robot was posed ready to defend against it.

Cheers and a Great job so far!

-Rage

#47

thanks Rage. I’m thinking of a cool pose for him right now a pose ready to strike at that guy. Hopefully something comes into mind soon. School is killing me:argh:

#48

Never heard of that show… (if I did I can’t remember…) Your Ninjas look very good dude! It will be a nice Diorama! Makes me want to see that series

#49

This is looking really cool! I’m not familiar with the show but I can give you some ideas…

I think that your scene is starting to look cinematic, so if you work within an HD or film format you can frame it and compose it better. I lice your second shot with the camera a little lower and the baddie closest to the camera to the side so it can be out of focus. As far as backgrounds go… would a traditional dojo work? what kind of backgrounds were in the show? anyway, just some ideas to think about.

#50

thanks! well I guess that’s 1/1 then for the pose. Rage liked shot 1 better but yeah to be honest I like shot 2 more even my bro like’s it. Although I’ll have to change the main character’s pose into a more aggressive type.

As for the background, well the show was mostly based on mars since humans “lived” on the planet already. And scenes inside an alien ship and space. Although when you said Dojo what popped in my mind was Matrix! If I have time (since school is killing me) I’ll model the Dojo. this way I can prolly practice on interior lightings too.

Btw,hope your Voltron is going great. He looks cool:buttrock:

#51

ok i’ve had some thought of it. and since next week I only have 2 days of classes I really feel like I’m goign to make it. at least just a clay render of the Dojo. So here are my reference pix. BTW thansk to Snows for the suggestion of the Dojo background

here are my 2 references

#52

i’ve not seen the show, but the dojo idea seems very appropriate.
fighting robots look cool in any enviroment

#53

Very nice work so far. Something about the poses strikes me as a bit odd. I cant put my finger on it yet, but I’ll think about it. Maybe its just that they look very stiff to my eye, even for robots.

How about a setting of ancient oriental ruins for them to fight in? It might even be less work than the dojo, depending on how much detail you had planned to model, if you use a jungle background image. A wrecked base on some barren planet would also be cool. Just brainstorming.

Cheers!

#54

hhhmm i think what’s striking you is the main dude since his pose is that he isnt bending down enough like a ninja on defense. have hard time moving his body around so he isn’t bended much. As for the suggestion thanks! well i did a few sketches of an alien interior, Predator like if you see it, though I tell you the only reason why i didn’t push it was because a.) i suck at uv mapping :argh: and editing in photoshop. You know, putting up the background image and rendered models together So i wasn’t able to push thru.

Though it had me thinking, if i do a dojo, it wud take time if i still texture it out and do the whole lighting, but yeah I’m still trying to balance them out. Thanks for the suggestion though, made me think twice bout it  like Omnilight said, fighting robots look cool anywhere

#55

hhhmm i’ve had careful decision bout this and i decided I’d just model my school instead,go for a more challenging approach for a nice background scene and shot. So here’s the building. I’m not going to accurately model it though since I’ve only got little reference. This is the School of Design and Arts…

BTW i have a question, how do you make something look broken up? i’m planning to make the school broken down…if anyone can help thanks  my bro suggested blastcode buh i’ve checked stores and they don’t have it :banghead:

#56

That should make for a cool setting!

Btw, it really pays to get your head around UV’s etc. They are the foundation of any texturing work to begin with. You might want to look into the Gnomon DVD’s by Sean Mills (I think that’s his name.) He really does a great job of explaining everything in a simple and easily understandable way. You should not need much beyond that.

Cheers!

#57

aha i really wanna learn how to uv map properly so thanks for the suggestion phew, gnomon! the one tutorial that is very hard to find here. I have alot of digital tutors but gnomon tutorials are the ones im looking for. thanks again. i will spend time searching around for that!

#58

ok here’s a little update of my school model

#59

more updates:

#60

here’s another update on the final shots: i feel like the second one would do. BTW the reason why the building is up is because im still going to put a ramp going up since thats how it is :stuck_out_tongue:

his eyes glows too much eh? and yes i will change his pose since it kinda looks too static.
