HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: Lupin III

Hey everybody,

my favorite cartoon series was "Lupin 3rd". I want to make a diorama, with all the main characters. I hope I have the time besides my work here at Pixomondo.

Althought “Lupin” was originally aired in 1969 and the 70s, there was “Lupin III, Part III” (1984) as a tv series and “Lupin III: The Golden Legend of Babylon” (1985) and “Lupin III: The Fuma Conspiracy” (1987) and “Lupin III: Bye Bye Liberty Crisis” (1989) as [i]full length animated movies.

Reference images, like the old Fiat 500 and the crew, will follow in the next post.

Lupin is from the 70s actually. First of the series started in 1971. I dont know if that affects it as they did continue to air into the 80s. Either way i love Lupin and cant wait to see this.

To be exact in one point. The pilot aired ´69, the series started 71. The smurfs, on which somebody is working here, started ´65, so I don´t know what´s the point on that.

I’m glad you are going to stick with this, the characters ooze a certain charm, have you made a start yet?

Of course, I did start the modelling the day before yesterday. Lupin has no head yet and the detailling in Mudbox has to be done, but I´ll post an image as soon as I get back home.
The whole project will become a part of my demoreel I suppose. I think of a turntable scene with the old Fiat 500.

Here is a quick update,

I must confess, that I had nearly no time for this private project, but luckily the Fiat 500 ist finished. I am detailling the head in Mudbox and building the shaders for the figure.

So be patient.

the manga is from the 60’s but the anime started airing in japan in the 70’s, that still doesn’t mean that it wasn’t on in the 80s in his home country of germany. kinda lame splitting hairs like that, voltron aired in japan as beast king golion from 1981 to 1982 but i remember being at least 4 or 5 when it aired in america 1983-84. it’s not out of the realm of possibilites then that our boy here may have seen lupin in the 80s, considering that the cartoon had 3 different runs, one of which STARTED in 1984.

just because the comic ran in the 70s in japan, doesn’t disqualify him unless it says somewhere in the rules that the 80’s show had to originally air in the 80s. even by that logic
