HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: Goku vs Vegeta

#61

Great progress, especially like the stylized anatomy and face, the lighting makes it look like the actual dbz toy figures, maybe work some more on the pose, otherwise great progress, keep it up.

#62

What are you planning on for texturing, any mudbox? Or are you keeping it with the plastic feel?

#63

@Justame2002: thanks

@EvilZurg: nah no mudbox on this one…i plan on going all out with the “adult collectable figure” idea with packaging etc so i’ll be keeping it mostly plastic looking

i’m having a break from this for a few days…got a few jobs to do so i’ll be back on this soon

#64

L:ooks really nice. You have set the bar high. I cant wait ti see the light setup, dont over expose it, you will loose some of the soft shades. Great stuff.
How long is left, im considering entering.

#65

@Airflow: the lighting setup is deceptively simple, its basically just 2 photometric area lights…and theres still over a month to go so you should definitely jump in

i’ve worked out that i can put off my work till the weekend…so i’ve started work on vegeta now and i’ll have some updates soon…

#66

Looking sweet man, i must say you inspired me to join and take apart in this challenge. Can’t wait to see the final result, im modeling gohan doing the Kamehameha vs cell in the cell games. If i get everything done i’ll have gohan cell and the arena modeled and maybe your goku helping him out like he does in the show :). Best of luck! keep the good stuff coming!

cheers,
Brad

#67

first bit of work on vegeta…i was originally going to try and modify my goku mesh for vegeta’s body but have now decided to model most of it from scratch…that said i haven’t done any of that yet but i made a start on his saiyan armour

still needs his tail wrapped around the middle of it but i’m still working out how i’m going to do the tail to have it look furry

#68

I am not so sure you should do fur (if you are talking realistic like with shave and a haircut) it would clash with the feel of your models IMO.

#69

@Bradv63: thats cool that i inspired you to take part…i’m waiting to see how you tackled the head…to see if i can glean anything to improve mine…lol…

@EvilZurg: nah no ‘real’ fur…just a modeled ‘plasticy’ representation of fur…

#70

I figured you would have gone that direction but just through that out there :). Super nice models man, almost too bad they arent modeled for rigging but I dont care at this point, the final render is going to be really nice. Cant wait!

#71

added the tail…not sure about it yet…

#72

done the boots now…

#73

looking good all the way
Vegeta’s armor should make it easier to rough pose him the “Robo way”

and dude i am loving your lighting setup. Vray lights?

#74

Hmm mmm doing great robo, keep on the going. you have a wierd way to pose

#75

@stage-gr: thanks…they’re just 2 standard max photmetric area lights…i was amazed myself at how simple it is…oh and i’m rendering with mental ray…

@vishsm: yep…its a weird way to pose…but its the only way i have any success…lol

#76

5 years from now people will be saying “Just robo pose it” and they’ll have no idea why :buttrock:

-looking great! no crits, except maybe he doesn’t look angry enough.

Keep it up your thread is really exciting.

-Rage

#77

Looking great but I’m still loving the hair. That really came out really well on Vegeta.

#78

Looking great! I agree with Wyatt, the hair on Vegeta turned out well. Still looks odd on Goku though.

Love the renders.

#79

haha rock on!:applause: cant wait to see the finish of this

#80

@RageOfAges: lol that’d be awesome…as for him not looking angry enough…at the moment he’s basically got the same head as goku…am yet to tweak it

@WyattHarris: yeh i’m quite happy with vegeta’s hair too

@Geta-Ve: i’m thinking of having another go at Goku’s hair…hopefully it’ll look better then

@razeverius: i want to see the finish too…lol
