HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: Circe model (Ulysees 31)

#1

I’ve picked Circe from Ulysees 31. Hopefully I’ll finish this one on time

WIP Update:

#2

I’m off to a bit of a late start since I wanted to finish my Bishop model before starting HMC#19. I began blocking in my pose today. Update below.

#3

Hi Waterlilly,

Hmm, I’m not that familiar with this character from Ulysees 31 but seeing your work on Bishop I’m looking forward to seeing the progress on this one

Good luck

#4

A good start, lets see more.

#5

SteveTsang-

Thanks! Circe is a minor character, I think she was only in 1 episode but I thought she’d be interesting to model. Her costume reminded me of Erte’s work, and he’s one of my favorite artists.

Wyatt-

Thankies! Here’s some recent work on the face.

To explain the pose/face- Circe is cursing the gods as they destroy her tower.

#6

Here’s another update before I mosey off to bed.

#7

Update  Blocking in the costume, not done perfecting the body anatomy yet, one example is the bend in the waist in the screenie below. I still have a lot of work to do

#8

Update. Sadly I haven’t had much free time to work on this so I don’t know if I can finish it on time.

Added some costume details, hands, cape, collar. Just need to sculpt the fine details now: trim, folds, cloth wrinkles & hand details.

#9

Tonight’s work. I’m all tuckered out, hopefully I’ll have some time tomorrow to work on the model.

#10

She is looking fantastic! :scream:

You can really feel the anguish. Great pose and work.

#11

Thanks Tober! I try my best. I did exaggerate the emotion a bit, but I’m glad that you liked it. In the cartoon scene where Circe’s tower is destroyed by the gods her facial and body expressions were just too stiff/plastic/neutral so I wanted to jazz it up (a lot).

#12

Good to see you back Waterlilly. Very dramatic pose, much better than the cartoon version.

#13

Great pose and the cloth looks very convincing, I think the hands look a bit small or maybe it’s the wrist throwing the proportion out!?

Good luck in finishing up

#14

Thankies Wyatt, it is good to be back

Samartin, thankies! You’re definitely right about the hands since they’re placeholders  I haven’t touched them yet, and they’re sorely crying out for attention, pining for some displacement lovin’ in zbrush.

#15

Nice,

I’m happy to see Ulysses31 has been aired in the US as well, I loved this show as a kid. Good choice and it’s looking great so far! I love the pose…

#16

Well I thought I would throw it out there, I’m not really keen on critiquing WIP threads! I hope you get this in for the deadline as it would be a shame to miss it!

Good luck

#17

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement!

I pulled an all-nighter trying to get this done, while she’s not as finished as I would like her to be I hope she’s complete enough to enter. Here’s the beauty render:

#18

yey, you made it! love the face expression and that fist looks very, very nice

#19

really lovely your piece, congratulation

#20

:love:Thanks everyone! Honestly, I couldn’t have pulled that all-nighter if it weren’t for all the nice feedback and sharp-eyed crit  I was late to work today from rendering this morning. I wanted to post some of the ortho renders before I fall asleep. I keep forgetting that I’m not in college anymore, I need my 8 hours of sleep every night or else my brain dissolves.

So at a later date I’ll probably come back to this project and neaten it up. I’d have loved to hammer at the problem areas but I just didn’t have enough time. I’ll be sure to post any updates in the future

cheers!
