HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: Captain Harlock's Arcadia

#21

Hi Roberto.

The 1984 series had the green arcadia, the 1978 had the blue one. Also, TOBER is right, Arcadia of my youth, Endless Odyssey SSX (being my main reference) and Captain Harlock and the queen of a thousand years (my references) are from mid-80 and the last one is listed in the list you gave us (the 80’s cartoons A-to-D page), I did check on this before starting the contest.

OK, this is where I am right now. I may work on this late tomorrow, I put a bit of Ambient Occlusion to see how it looks like with it.

#23

Great modeling Fictis. I was checking on Wikkipedia and this green Arcadia is from the mid 1980’s. The ugly blue Arcadia is from the late 70’s show Captain Harlock.

Had a pretty busy day allright but I had time to model the wings. Tomorrow is rather busy as well.

#25

Great progress here!

Cheers!

#26

Thanks for the comments guys, no progress today (no significant progress), I’ll probably post tomorrow.

#27

aw man! wait wait wait! i think I know this. If you happen to know Megas XLR in cartoonetwork they featured this ship lol. This looks cool!:applause:

#28

Man I forgot all about this thread. I checked it out after your first post and thought: Wow that ship looks awesome! You’ve done a great job with your references. This beast is looking great.

By the way I saw you are from Chicoutimi. My whole family on my mother’s side is in Chicoutimi, or jonquiere, or Arvida.

Gee, now I really know why I sometimes hate myself…

I’m doing the back of the ship. Once again, not so many clear images (even from the series itself) and a hell of a lot of decorations… Even better, as this challenge is a good way for me to learn the tools, I decided I would do all the leaves and decorations with vertices in order to learn vertex grouping, assigning weighting and subsurfing instead of using simple bezier curves… I also adjusted a few elements of the ship (mostly size and position) because the views I used did not match the ship from the illustrations and the series (but I will not post images yet).

Really nice work here, its pumped up.

#31

hey

i’ve got the models (both the blue ,btw i dont think its ugly at all and i prefer the first one actually, and i have also the green arcadia(from taito))i cant take pictures of it if you really need to…

#32

Your model looks amazing, nice craftsmanship. The galleon-like stern of the Arcadia has always fascinated me. Some other ships in the series had paddlewheels, and even oars if I remember correctly.

#33

Hey Moonchild,

Any reference would definitely help very much, a lot of details are unclear in the images I have.

#34

Here is where I am right now with the Rear of the ship. No real assembly for the moment, I just tilted the rear part to “fit” with the side, no adjustments done yet and some overlaps will have to be corrected.

#35

Very sweet detail! That’s what we all love to see, so keep it flowing!

Cheers!:arteest:

#36

Wow great progress, i thought it would be very hard to make it as its a very big ship but you managed to make it so.

Great work and hope you can have it complete in short.

Thanks for the comments guys

The rear of the stern is done now and the basic shape of the side of the stern is also done. I hope to have most of the model done by wednesday…

#38

Very nice detail, it captures the look of the Arcadia’s stern castle perfectly.

#39

The ship is finally almost done. It’s been quite a challenge and I am very happy to be able to reach my goal. I’ve learned much indeed, very much… A lot of detailing still to be done and some pieces of the ship are still missing but I can see the end now

yo very nice … arcadia is coming along nicely … loving the detail you put on the captain’s cabinet
