Halflife2 engine?

I have heard rumors that Half life 2 will come bundled with Valve’s engine mods… similiar to unreal 2k3 did. Has anyone else heard this and or is the engine out now for mod?

No,
the engine source will not be released. Valve will be shipping the game SDK along with the game itself. The SDK is said to be similar to the HL1 one but supposedly offers a much much wider range of possibilities for modders. Basically the SDK includes every source file of the game except for the engine code.

On top of that, Valve is Working with XSI to ship a free version of SoftImage with the game.

Thanks for the info on Valve’s release. Basically I am attempting to decide on an engine/game to work with for an upcoming mod idea. Originally I was all for Unreals, but wanted to wait until I heard what valve was doing. Heh - another possibility is the battlefield engine, which I think It was released (beta) but not sure…
