Half Life 2 Player Model

Alright i have made a Model for hl2 it still needs : Rigging, Texturing and Animations for the game to work… but i have a few questions…

  1. What For are the Smoothing Groups ?
  2. If I Use this model in game am i copywrighting the people who thought up this model, if so am i being illegal?
  3. The character is Symmetryd so i only want one side to be unwrapped can i copy over the other side so that i wont have to unwrap both side’s ?

1 smoothing groups describe the way a mesh smooths from one polygon to the next. you are currently using one smoothing group, thismeans the whole mesh is smoothed, if you wanted a shape edge between say the eyes and the rest you would seklect relevant eye polys and change the smoothing group.

just play around with these in a shaded viewport and you will quickly realise theyre uses.

2 i wouldnt be worried about this, just dont try and sell it.

3 it is fine to stmetry after texturing but you have to be aware of creating a visible seam down the middle because of the symmetry
