Guitarist - WIP

Hello everyone.
I’ve tried digital painting about 5 years ago, but I had a long break and I didn’t ever paint regularly, so I’ll be still a beginner for a while more
Actually this is my first painting of human, I’d be glad to ‘hear’ your comments and critiques. I’m not sure if I’m doing it in a right way, and I must admit that I have some problems with skin tones, but I’m trying my best. I know there’s still a lot to do.

Can you show us the reference photo?

Of course.
I didn’t mention, this guy is Johan Hallgren (ex Pain Of Salvation), as some of you may know.

If your goal is to simply copy the photo as closely as possible as a technical exercise, then it’s really just a matter of comparing your version to the photo and keep making changes until you achieve that goal. There’s nothing more to it, since you’re not exactly dealing with having to make any creative decisions that constructing an original image would require.

One tip you can use to help you, is to flip the photo and your image horizontally once a while, so you can see the images with fresh eyes (it helps to get rid of the bias in the way your brain is wired for processing images). When you do that, you can spot all the problems that were invisible to you before, due the bias in your brain’s visual processing system.
