GTX Titan VS GTX 690

#1

I am changing my setup. I want to see If I can add a Cintiq 24HD to my dual Dell 30 workspace. I figure that is a lot to power.

The 690 is a dual-gpu card and the Titan is a single gpu card.

What video card would be best for my top purposes.

A: Desktop environment - Large contiguous desktop
B: Zbrush
C: 3DsMax
D: Mental Ray
E: Games

I’m wondering if the dual-gpu on the 690 is worthless for just about everything except Games… But the 690 does have 3 DVI-out. The Titan has 2DVI + mini displayport.

Thanks

Doesn’t quite matter

B: Zbrush

Doesn’t use the GPU

C: 3DsMax

Doesn’t support SLI, therefore the 690 is useless

D: Mental Ray

CPU based (unless you mean iRay, in which case, still Titan on account of the higher memory and no DP crippling, if iRay even supports SLI anyway)

E: Games

Just browse for benchmarks

If you want to use DCC apps SLI is still largely useless 99% of the time. The Titan is superior in every regard.

Get the Titanic card

“Iceberg, dead ahead!”

Thanks!!! Thanks for the breakdown too. I will remember this for the future.

I probably get the Titan (or a 770/780. We’ll see how this goes :). Titan is expensive! ) and then hook one of my displays up using a DVI-MiniDisplayPort converter.

Get the 780, it has %90 of Titan’s performance and you are not using anything that the extra 3gb ram would matter. I was looking into the Titan as well and couldn’t justify the cost.

Hi. i’m pretty green in this.
but i have a question,

I remember when the time Kepler came out, a GTX680’s render much worse than a GTX470…

So i wonder if a GTX780 or a Titan will have the same issue as before?

For Mari, Mudbox, and GPU accelerated comp and rendering there’s a considerable gap between the 780 and the Titan due to a mix of more memory (when you need it) and non crippled DP.
For everything else, particularly in viewport, not so much and the added 300 bucks aren’t worth it.

IF DP kicks in the gap is a yawning chasm computationally speaking, if single precision is used the entire stretch there’s hardly more than a 10-15% difference most of the time.

here is a comparison done over at boxx
