Growing object in time (Maya 2012)

#1

[size=3][color=white]Hello,

I want to animate a cylinder, make it grow in time like the windows old screen saver.

I have managed to do it using a nurbs circle and a curve but there is another way I have been doing it but I have encountered a few problems I hope you can help my with.

This other way is attaching a poly cylinder with many divisions to a curve with a motion path and applying the Flow Path object option in which I have marked Lattice around curve and local effect boxes.

After this I keyed the cylinders scale so it grows in time, I did this because if not the cylinder follows the path instead of growing from the base up.

For some reason I can’t upload an example image but you can download it from here:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/34g68c

The problems are:

  • During the animation the base of the cylinder deforms.

  • The lattice made with the flow path twits half way and at the end of the curve.

Do you have any idea why this is happening and how can I fix it?

Thank you!!
