Still doing a search for it, but anyone know where i can find this tutorial that shows a ground fracturing and debris and ground pushing up as if a creature is underneath the ground. I feel i’ve seen this tutorial but can’t find it.

Here’s some examples of the effect i’d like to create to get my feet wet with houdini.

a maya example
I’m sure i’ve seen a houdini tutorial on doing this, though now i’m thinking it was a maya version tutorial

I don’t think you will find a tutorial per say. I would head over to the sidefx forum and start in the learning Houdini section.
The best way to achieve a full shot is to learn the inner mechanics from doing small tests and then combine all that knowledge. The first thing you should do is work out how you are going drive a trigger point down a path which you can use to time and execute other attributes to drive your various effects

thx for the reply mr. Bob. I started to figure that when i couldn’t find what i was looking for. I jumped back to some intro videos on sidefx site. It’s not the first time i’ve tried to learn H, but i can never seem to get past learning the UI. heh. I think i’m just going to back to Maya and do the fx there since I know that program the most.
cheers,

This isn’t exactly what your after but I supposed you could use a metaball to push the ground upwards.
