Graphics Cards - Quadro K3100M vs. GeForce 980M

#1

My company was just acquired and we’re being moved to laptops instead of workstations running either 3DS Max or C4D. The price range allows for either a Quadro K3100M or GeForce GTX 980M. The latter seems to smoke the older Quadro performance-wise but I know that there are specialized drivers for the Quadro line that help with Max.

I’ve only been using GeForce cards with LW and Modo over the years so my brain is about to explode from not only comparing Quadro vs. GeForce but accounting for the mobile chips, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 980 will be double the speed.

Also, moving a team of 3D artists from desktops to laptops?.. Do they hate you?

Heh… yeah really… are they also tying your hands behind your backs?? :argh:

Yes, it’s not ideal but the job could at times require us to go onsite with clients for more design-oriented work. I’m sure that we’ll continue use our existing workstations until they pry them from our grasp.

Thanks for the info. I thought that the 980 would be so new and technologically ahead that any optimized drivers from the Quadro still wouldn’t matter. I’m glad to have confirmation.
