GPU Rendering a mess in Vray RT

#1

This bothers me so much. Take a look at the 2 attached renders. The normal one is a regular CPU render. The messed up pic is using vray rt engine with GPU. I cannot for the life of me figure out whats wrong and I"ve done a lot of testing. The two renders are wayyyy off, this defeats the purpose of the RT engine completely. Without a solution I’ll be leaving vray for a better renderer.

I’m using maya 13 and vray 2
windows 7 64 bit
GTX 780 video card (latest drivers)

The car paint is vray car paint shader. The rest of the shaders are vray material. I’m using linear workflow. Those renders have one light which is the vray sun. GI on.

This is really strange, I’ve never seen this problem before. It could be specific to just your
GFX card & drivers.
I reckon it would be worthwhile contacting chaosgroup support about this. They’re
very good with responding and sorting out issues.

I originally had a Quadro 5000, same problem. So I sold it and went from 500 cuda cores to about 3000. Very excited to try my GTX 780…until I realized the problem was the same.

There must be somebody else that has experienced this? I bet it’s something stupid like a option that I"m not aware of.

Okay I just found this info online;
To enable GPU rendering, select the OpenCL (single kernel) or CUDA (single kernel) value for the Engine type parameter in the V-Ray RT settings.

Well my video card does have CUDA cores but in the VrayRT settings my options are only CPU or OpenCL(single kernel). Maybe that’s the problem, shouldn’t it show an option for CUDA?
