GPU: GTX 780 or GTX 970?

Upgrading from my gtx580. Tossing up between the new 970 and the 780 which are similarly priced; but one area the 970 (and indeed the 980) lose to the older 780 is texel fill rate http://www.anandtech.com/show/8568/t...w-feat-evga/13

Is this likely to be a relevant factor in how fast a card is in Max 2015 viewport? Typical scene would be no more than 5m polys.

I did not test it yet, but I would not be suprised at all, if I find that 580 is even faster in viewport than 780/970…
Because, GTX580 was the awesome card, like Ti-4600 or GTO-7900…

Save your money. For relatively small scenes like you have, the 580 has no problems dealing with those. I can push mine to over 25-30 m polys and still have a workable 10-20 fps for navigating (with a.d. on, of course)

A 580 is still perfectly decent, I wouldnt be looking to upgrade for another generation or two.

I know these cards are still pretty new, but has anyone done GPU performance tests with GeForce GTX 980/970 how does it compare to the 780Ti and Titan cards with Octane Render, Iray or Vray RT, are there any gains, has anyone been having any issues?

The 970/980 have a lot of potential, but right now there are major driver/software issues. Octane runs like a dog on them. Redshift have come up with a hack fix and using that the 970 is close to titan performance, but even this isn’t 100% reliable.

All in all its probably worth waiting until the driver situation is addressed properly by nvidia.

I’m trying to figure out which videocard would work better for Mari. 970 vs 780? I have a gtx 460 1 gb and it seems eating video memory quite fast in projects. Should I upgrade to the lowest price 4gb bideocard, or get a 970? What do you think?
