good weave shader

#1

Anybody have a good shader setup for woven fabric? See attached img for ref - I was hoping to do this procedurally, I’ve got the shiny metallic aspect of it pretty worked out but can’t figure out how to get the woven-ness:

Seems like some of the textures in the NX page “Zenobites” image would work (the silver metallic things) but I’ve never found NX setups that coorespond to those.

If you can’t find a shader, why not use a bump map?

You can also weave your own 3D fabric with Paralumino’s Braider and Superlines…

You beat me to it Richard.

Thanks!

Out of curiosity, can you show a more complex example of the Paralu… braiding? like a suit of armor? is the braiding geo or shader?

I’m not adverse to using a bump map, I just don’t know how close I’m going to be getting to the object. Its actually a Flag setup right now (creating this as a background), so that’s why I need to do this as a shader or texture.

I don’t really need an excuse to buy more EI stuff - I usually get any new EI plugin or shader as soon as it comes out. Sorry guys, I got behind!

Braider analyzes any source piece of geometry and extrapolates a set of poly lines based on the source’s original topology. Analysis can be in the U or V directions or even diagonally. You can set the amount of height the “waves” possess and then combine two sets together. (Effectively weaving the two together) One in the U and one in the V. These source curves can then be run through one of our geometry engines (for true geometry) or combined with Superlines for faux geometry. (Shader based)

Depending upon the profile you sweep along those curves, you could create a number of interesting looks.
