Good profession to change to

#1

Hey guy’s! I have a question… is maybe strange but anyway:
What’s a good profession to change if matte painter want to?
Thank you!

#2

mhh concept artist?
or doing traditional arts maybe? I know a guy who’s working as a matte painter half a year and who spends the other half working on his personal paintings (traditional stuff, however) and really loves it.
haha no seriously, no idea. why would u wanna change anyways
it’s not you who is considering to change profession, is it??
how’s animal logic btw?

Hey man!

Animal was really good place to work and to stay. I really enjoy both films(Australia, Knowing) but now I am back at London.BTW: you might meet Tim Warnock  say hello to him for me!
-Yes, I am thinking to try something else, because I don’t see my future in matte painting as bright as before…my career just like a stop…maybe its just a period or bad timing, or something.
Thanks for a tip, Chrike  we’ll see.

Texture Artist - lighting - and as someone else mentioned, Concept Art, and Art Direction.

hey man,
sorry, been on holidays the the last couple of days.
I’ll look out for Tim
Great to hear that AL rocked;
Question though: Why do you think your career stopped or why are you seriously considering a change of profession? I mean u just came back from bloody Australia (the continent I mean, not the film :D), that’s pretty cool I’d say!
May I ask why you didnt stay longer or why you didnt go to another company (e. g. rising sun) down there (as you already had a visa n stuff)?

#6

Hey man , whats going on?! why do you not want to do matte painting anymore???

I cant see why you would want out considering you just worked on two major films. I know its none of my business but were you laid off or fired?? I could see getting fired put a damper on your motivation but if thats the case man just keep working hard! and if you were laid off man you have some great stuff on your resume shouldnt have to worry about the next gig.

But if you really do want out I would say try out concept art or 3d?

Personally i think you are on your way to becoming pro and it would be silly to give up now.

hi degerardo.

I began to engage in advertising graphics and print. Sought to the level of Platinum and Taylor James.

Why have thought about changing professions?

#8

hey man, I may be waaaayyy out of line here, but I’ll go on and ask anyway… are you changing profession because somebody banned you for posting those Knowing Images? I mean I know studios can be tough (ILM especially, you can’t even mention what project/s your working on…) but did they like kicked you out? Man that would be bad.

BUT, its not the end of the world dude, whatever your reasons are, your on your way! I’m pretty sure a lot of people would want to hire you! I’m sure! With that telent of yours? Man!

Anyway to answer your question, closest would be concept artist, texture artist, Background artist, if you know 3D then Environment artist… and a few more options… just keep an eye peeled and I’m sure in a month or 2 you’ll be on the good side of life…

Hey Hey guy’s!

No I didn’t get fired and I didn’t get banned, or anything else…my friends, no no no!
hahaha  no, no fired or banned or something. Everything was really GREAT!
I am just thinking about that. I mean I really LOVE matte-painting and if you have a look on me and how hard i am working on myself-to be better and better… you have to see it
I am not saying I am good or something, but maybe i just have really empty period for new works, ideas, what to do etc. And every day is really same. And same stuff going on.
Its maybe a bad timing or just no luck or something I don’t understand. Or maybe my english
Which is suck :stuck_out_tongue: any way thank you ALOT my friends! I’ll have a look for something and I`ll see. Maybe as you said concept. Yes, maybe more concept work will help
Really thank you guys!
Gerardo.

Chris Kesler - I coul not stay longer, because my contract expired. I had a contract for 2.movies. I know i could ask to stay for comercials or advertisement, but my father was really hard sick, so I went home. RSP-they are not looking for matte painters at the moment and other companies I haven’t try in AU.

BTW: my website is unter testing and soon will be back

My guy’s, in the short way: I thought it will be easier after that two big movies, I have done where was everything really good(new professional works, alot of references from leads, supervisors, colleagues and great people, new experiences on the biggest shots etc.), but is really harder as before(things i mention) and that’s funny. It should be opposite and that’s what scared me alot! :argh:
