Glass / Particle Effect

#1

I have a project where I’m looking into a crystal ball, or a snow dome really. There is some film involved probably shot on digi beta or perhaps on HD.

At any rate, I have to put a location in the snowdome and the camera zooms into the dome. Should I do it all in post or should I fill the snowdome with a green liquid and key the frames individually? It’d be a job… like the environment would be at an angle so the replacement footage would need to shift accordingly.

The other option is to just cut from the snowdome to a shot where you’re already looking into it. I’m thinking something fullscreen/blocked off. Pretty much just building it all together. Perhaps using some sort of Fisheye Lens filter on an image, then laying an image of what appears like the snowdome over the time and masking. Then putting in the particle effect for like snow/rain/leaves etc under the same filter? The transition could be a whole screen of snow merging into the scene as opposed to a zoom into the snowdome like int he first paragraph.

I’m pretty much using combustion for the particle effects, but what distort can i do on the image?

I dont know how to approach this really without creating a whole CG environment in the snowdome area and matte paint it all on or something and well… i dont have that experience or the time

Any help on how to do this would be great… or if you know parts on how to do it

Cheers

hi,
Strictlly C* ??? .You could use a matchmoving app to give you your camera if youre dollying in.If not then use some markers.C*'s got REvision warping/morphing which you can track, so youre set there. As far as creating your snow scene, there are some fractal generators to give you quick output and juice it up in post if you dont want to go the typical max/maya way.Throw C* particles into the mix.

i’m not sure abt filling your orb/bowl with green liquid…wouldn’t you get a distortion pass with just letting it be empty or with transparent liquid…youre tracking your cg matte elements onto the orb any way right…so use the real plate with opacity and screen/add mode ???

this is indeed interesting. i’ll try it my self some time.

any body else want to chime in ???
