Getting anatomical reference for children and old people

#1

Hi, I’m starting a project which requires me to draw and model a person in several stages of life, from birth to old age. The problem is, I have no idea where to start to get reference for it. Young to middle aged men are not a problem, but old people and children tend to be photographed naked or nearly naked less often. I don’t think I can just google “naked young boy” either.

If anyone knows of any books or anything that would prove good reference for anything from babies to old people, that’d be great.

The model for this Open Figure Drawing Workshop, Ron Eyre, is older. I can put you into contact with him if you would like more images. I don’t believe he has a public website for his images, but he is quite willing to have his images used for artistic purposes.

I am out of town atm and only checking the forum / email infrequently. But feel free to PM me and I will contact Ron, then have him contact you.

Also check out the References Sticky thread on the Anatomy Forum (one of the top 6 or so links there). Link to the Anat Forum is in my signature.

Hope this helps!

Strange that you have posted this thread. I, too, am doing a piece that the main focal point is a bust of baby. I for the life of me cannot draw a baby’s chest. So, I Googled/Yahooed/MSNed/Useneted/Archived everything that involved such a thing. I felt dirty doing it, and only came out with 5 helpful sources (and two in photography books I have). They are very very small images, but refs nonetheless. The biggest source came from completed artworks by others, which I didn’t want to rely on. I need the skin tone and density as it would appear in a natural setting. So, with those lil’ images, I’m gonna try to complete the piece the best of my capabilities.

Wish you luck!

Just Google something more generic, like “swimmers”, “boy/s” etc. You may have to trawl thru more returns, but something like that search term is too specific.
