Gaze Tracking

#1

Hi every Body

Saying that the eyes are the mirror of the soul makes a lot of sense because the eye and its movements actually reflect the activity of the brain. Given this, the potential of eye tracking is nearly everywhere the eye can see. The challenge is to translate eye data into meaningful tools. .

itll be fine if we could use capturing the character eyes (gaze direction) for animation projects , with simple and easy way .
there is several way that have been used and i will explain some of them .

we cant put marker on our eyeball and cant track pupil because its not a full circle and usualy cut by eyelashes .
some recent method:

simple pupill track : with some softwares like pftrack or syntheyes . but they are time consuming because when eye closed the software would confused and need to modify several time .

beowulf : when eyeball turns to each side , it send a special signal to brain .and beowulf makers used this signals by receiving by some electrods near eye and calculating that and made pupill move in right way .

some new methods : there is some new and cutting edge method that use very complex Algorithm and mathematics and ect like TOBIL method and so on . they estimate eye direction depend on face and eye shape and use pupill position to determine eye direction.

all of them was good but they are not available for all of us .
if you use or hear a simple and good method or even have an idea, please let us know that .

Thanks for sharing.
I remember having a real hard time animating the eyes back when doing some personal face stuff.
I had no clue how they should behave really, so I just broke and randomized the function-curves on the eyes direction target object and made it follow the audio clip a bit wit a bit of lag.

I think the ‘Beowulf’ method may be sensing the tension on the eye muscles to determine the eye’s vector.
