Gathering At Somberglow - wip

#1

Hello all!

Let me first say, while i’m doing some painting study and all that, this is the first piece of work i’ll actually going to finish (or atleast call finished :P) that is my own work and not work done by reference.

When i started out, i didn’t really have anything in mind for this image, but it eventually turned out into this sort of fantasy land, and story is very simple, these birds like creature are gathering around the tower, and it’s up to viewer to think of why.

I’m doing this in PS cs5.

Updated:

I think it’s pretty much finished. I could polish it for quite a while, but gotta stop at some point i guess…

Your edges are kind of confused. Think about the hierarchy of edges in both logical and artistic terms.

From near to far, manage all the edges in your scene so they are consistent and make sense. Don’t have soft and blurry edges sandwiched between hard and crisp edges that are closer AND further away–that wouldn’t make any sense.

Also, manage your edges so that the hierarchy of hard, firm, soft, and lost edges correspond to where your focal points are in the composition.

Maybe use the blue smoke effect more sparingly? Using it everywhere kind of lessens its effect.

Ok, tnx both of you, i guess i didn’t put enough attention to the edges. Will try to be more carefull of this in future, tnx!
