Game Testing

#1

I am looking for some people to help me test a new game that is being developed called Tales of Torrund. Right now, the download only lets you walk around on a map, but I want people to try it out and see what kind of FPS they are getting and if there are any issues with installation or running the game on the different type of Windows machines. This way I can tune the engine and sort out issues of different types of machines before development gets along any further. I have created a setup file which is available on the web site for easy installation. If you do decide to try it out, first of all, thanks for your help!! and second if you have any problems please post them on the web site forum.

Here is the link to the web site.

Thanks for the help!!

Hey ponyboy …
Looks to be a cool game
-well there isn’t any Collision detection yet …

-there are problems with the Keydown event you have … don’t know how you query the state of the keys ? by API or by the DX key states or by VB’s Keydown ??
the problem is when you press more than one direction key at once …
lets say im heading left (Left arrow pressed down) … then i want to head a little down then again left … so i keep the left arrow pressed then press down along with it then release the down key … then it should resume moving to the left …
but in the game you’ve done it’s not working … so check ur Key Query Function

-BTW the frame rate is 60/61 fps
P4 2400/512/533 - 256 ddram

-there were no Installation bugs

and BTW: the game doesn’t exit properly when you press ESC … it’s still running in the task manager

Thanks for the help testing!

I found the fixed the movement bug so it works as you stated now. I also found an additional bug where movement is paused when more than 1 key is pressed, that is also fixed. I also fixed the bug that wasn’t exiting the game properly and leaving it running in the task manager. I also added some more features, ie. collision detection, etc. which I are listed on the web page (http://www.arealitystudios.com).

These bug fixes and extra features will be released in the next demo to be released soon, they are not reflected in the current demo. Thanks again for the help testing!

There is a new build of ToT available on the web site. This build displays NPC Interaction and Map interaction. Head over to http://www.arealitystudios.com and download the demo. Head over to the forums there and let us know what you think! The web site has also been updated! Thanks!

Hey,

Checked out your game but ran into trouble. At the end of installation, the following error message appears:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gdiplus.dll
Unable to register the DLL/OCX: DllRegisterServer export not found.

The game still seems to work but the NPC interaction doesn’t seem to work on my computer. In the beginning of the run, the character is not controllable unless space is pushed. I imagine I am having some conversation with the lady in front of the character, and that is the reason, but there is no message or text on the screen to indicate this. Perhaps the missing DLL is the reason.

I use a Windows XP machine, P4 w/ 512 MB memory, GFX5200 PCI.
