Game Mod: Ground Zero (RPG) -image intensive

#1

Hello,

I’m managing the production of a post-apocalyptic RPG mod for Doom 3. We’re currently developing a proof-of-concept in the form of a small fictional town called Springhill, which we are using to demonstrate core game concepts and build up a library of re-usable art assets. The first public demo will be released mid January and polished up over the spring (as more features are implemented), while final development will take place throughout 2006 and likely into next spring.

www.groundzeromod.net (currently just the most recent design document, website coming)

So far about 15 college students (and recent graduates) from Europe and the U.S. have contributed work, including Shepeiro from here at CGTalk. We’re looking for some additional 3D modellers, animators, and texture artists to collaberate with us in creating a compelling visual atmosphere that communicates the game’s core themes. Our game takes place in a “future of the fifties” alternate timeline following nuclear war, inspired by a number of post-apocalypse and timepunk games/movies including Fallout, Six String Samurai, Mad Max, City of the Lost Children, Brazil, etc.

(some environmental concepts):

Concepting is virtually complete for the characters and environment (although some interior design and unique building concepts are missing). We have one character WIP, and would like to get an additional 2-3 implemented by our January release. There is a number of map decorations and interactive objects to be modelled (furniture, power lines, signage, clutter) that will help flesh out the environment. Lastly, some dedicated texture artists are desired to give the gameworld a consistent look and feel. A specific list and timeline is available internally.

We’re currently creating a set of 10x10 foot “building blocks” to arrange into various background structures before modelling unique structures. Some in-game shots showing a few of the assets we have:

And lastly, a couple character designs you would be working from:

That’s it from me! Sorry for all the huge images, I’ll remove or rescale them if there is a problem. Feel free to leave replies here or contact me by email:

Cheers!

Heh, its in there, just a wee bit small and only grey texture/normal map (want it to look good untextured first). Nice to see someone from the Doom community around.

I take it if you were available you would have already offered… but I’ll ask anyway if I have to  From your gallery it looks like your work would fit right in, if you’d like another project to put your name on.

I certainly would have mate, this mod looks very promising, but i’m pretty tied up with my own short animation atm. Good luck with it though, i’ll be keeping my eye on this one

    C'mon people, join this mod!

We recently launched a website. Be gentle, it is still in its infancy

A release is due this friday, still in prototype phase. We will show a few basic features, and custom visual/aural assets in the form of a town called Springhill. Very W.I.P. but should communicate our intended methodology. As we continue to build up this prototype, we are concurrently honing our aesthetic and narrative style. Anyone who has Doom 3 at their disposal is encouraged to playtest and let us know what you think!

Due to various Real Life™ normalities as it were, our number of active team members has ebbed somewhat at the moment. We are still looking for artists of the 3D and texture disciplines to collaberate with on bringing a world to life!
