GAC11: Bessie Coleman (Queen Bess) - Daredevil Aviator

So this is my fist model and challenge. Kind of a daunting first model but I thought 3 months is surely enough time and worth the learning experience.

My character is Bessie Coleman “Queen Bess”. Bessie COleman was the first woman to earn an International Aviation License and the world’s first black aviator. She went to France to get an Aviation license, returned to the US antaught other black women to fly, gave

I think I’m going for a modern/urban/Japanese interpretation of her. Right now I’m really into Naruto so I’m basing my concept of Ninja off that.

I’m not too great with stories but if you want some kind of story you can pick either of these…

While on a random flight off the US southeaster coast Bessie’s plane disappears in the Bermuda Triangle and ends up in a Narutoeusque era of Japan.

Or

Instead of going to France to earn a pilot’s license Bessie studies aviation, among other things in Japan.

Cop-outs I know but it works for me.

The concept is, to say the least, interesting. Can you elaborate exactly what you’re taking from Naruto here? I mean, right now I can see a woman in a flight jacket forming hand seals with a kunai in her mouth. I’m looking forward to some sketches

I see where you’re coming from. I actually hadn’t planned on doing any serious sketches. I might have to now. We’ll see…

I showed a wire to some friends before xmas. It’s not much to critique right now but I thought I would go ahead and post it anyway.

I’m not going to be able to finish in time. I’m still going to continue the model as I have time but here is what I got when I started over… this time.
