GAC #11: Zombie Jimi Hendrix (The Voodoo Child)

Back story

Deep within the depths of hell, plugged into his Marshall stack, raging through another godly solo (Satan loves them so), Jimi Hendrix’s axe was on fire. Elvis and a few others watched in awe.

But just as Jimi hit his stride, an ominous chorus invaded from above. The sound unsettled the very foundations of hell. “Hit me baby one more time!”

“Come on Satan!”, shouted Jimi in disgust. “Cut me some slack. The shit thats getting down here these days is bumming me out. Heaven or hell, we are all losers with jive like that!”

Satan sucked on his cigar.

“This musical disharmony is dragging me down! Ain’t I far down enough!”

Jimi threw down his charred axe, rushed to Satan’s table and stared him eye to eye.

“Send me back Satan!! Send me back, and I’ll end this bad tripping!! I’ll give that bitch exactly what she wants!!” :buttrock:

Satan exhaled a thick plume of smoke before he spoke.

“You had me at ‘Come on Satan’. I can’t send you back fresh though, but then again, you’re out to kick ass. The rotting flesh will add character. Dig?”

“I dig.”, nodded Jimi.

“But take this with you.”, said Satan, lifting a metal guitar case from the shadows.

“It’s a modified '67 Strat. The blade attachment should come in handy. Now a catch a buzz and hit the road. Loki knows the way.”

Jimi grabbed the guitar case, gave Satan a nod, and walked towards the door.

“Remember Jimi, you are a hippie no more, you are the Voodoo Child!”

And with that Jimi left, the smell of reefer in his wake.

I like the historical idea, but I wanted to do something a little off beat. I was originally quite keen on doing a Leonardo Da Vinci character, with a flying contraption on his back, but then I got this idea instead.

Clothing is going to over the top . . as is his “Axe”. Its probably going to be a '67 Strat with added blood stained blades and other attachments. I haven’t decided exactly how huge his afro is going to be . . but it should be pretty big.

I am going to try and draw quite a few ideas from Voodoo etc, so I still have to research that . . .

Any ideas/suggestions/comments etc . . . let rip.

Cheers

Do him justice man…

Once in awhile I will spend a few hours on a lazy Sunday afternoon at his tombstone here in Seattle, just breathing in his greatness…

If you only lived here you would have some great reference through visits to the EMP. Great Hendrix exhibit; especially since the museum is named after him [his band].

Let the music possess the zombie, and not the thirst for brains.

Hey guys . . I will definately try my best to do the legendary man justice.

He’s not so much a traditional mindless zombie, just Jimi Hendrix back from the grave.

I am not so keen on doing rotten/decayed flesh zombie vibe . . it just doesnt seem fitting. But I am thinking of going for more pasty/pale/severe skin tones, with veins heavily accentuated and angry looking glowing eyes, just to give him a super natural edge.

The really tough part is going to be to nail the likeness. Thats always the hardest part. So far I haven’t found much good reference, but I will persevere.

bentlama: That exhibit would be perfect . . ahhh man.

Anways, still hammerring out ideas . .

Cheers

Steve
