GAC: 11 Ganesh - Indian Deity

#1

Character:
Ganesh/Ganesha the Indian Diety

      Background:
Ganesha, the son of the Hindu deities Siva and Durqa, - depending on the region of India - is a god of luck and of "opening the way." Rotund and generally jolly, he is distinguied from other Hindu deities because he has the head of an elephant. His identifying object is an elephant goad, to move stubborn people, but he is not always shown bearing it. Sometimes he carries a conch shell, holds a book, a discus, a club, a lotus or receives offerings of sweet foods. He also has different symbols on the palm of his hands. Usually, one of his tusks is broken, a reference to a tale set in his childhood, when his father accidentally hit him too hard. His vehicle is a rat, who may be shown stealing one of the food offerings placed at his feet.
Ganesha is represented as a short, pot-bellied man with an elephant's head with one tusk, four arms, and yellow skin.

      Age: Eternal
      Hair: Long and black
      Eyes: Dark Brown
      Weight: 170 cm
      Height: 110 kg
Weapons: Goad, Ornate Club, Fists and Magical symbols in his palms
      Style: "Gracefull Movement"

      Additional info:
I wont work with concepts during this projekt. I will focus all my efforts to make a good model and texture. This means that i will use the same stile on Ganesh as you see in the references, slightly modified to be used in a fighting game.

MAtt Clark did an awesome Model of Ganesh a few years back. I wish I remembered his website. You might want to check it out. This should be pretty cool, good luck!

Ganesh in a fighting game ? Isn’t that going to ‘step on some toes’ ?

( I haven’t seen anyone do a Jesus character in a fighting game. )

I would love to see your work as it progresses.

I’m just concerned about the offensive aspect of it.

Keep us posted !

dmonk: Ooooh i would like to see it. If you find it pleas tell me the adress. I will search for it my self aswell.

Vegan: I was actually thinking of doing Jesus at first but i changed my mind because of his boring clothing. And you are right, some people might take offens. I hope since this wont end up in a real fighting game - its only fictional. And I am keeping true to the style and not going with big guns or muscles i hope people will see that I am not trying to ridicule Ganesh in anyway. Im doing this out of respect more than anything else.

Since this is going to be in a game, that means low polygon modelling right ?

Any chance you can smooth the model for a still shot ? I’d love to see that.

I’d also love to see how that this character will look from the side and all, since in real life, you would be crippled with four arms !

yes, it’s lowpoly, 15,000 tris…you shouldn’t need to smooth that…

laughs as he remembers homer impersonating ganesh!

yeah i remember a little while back, someone did an unreal tourney model that was a miniature elephant piloting a mech suit that wasn’t supposed to actually be ganesha, but was indian themed & a few people got upset. on the other hand, that bloody roar game they released on game cube has a large indian man named ganesha who in his ‘beast mode’ transforms into an elephant too. so worst case scenario, if anyone doesn’t like the idea, blame hudsonsoft (i think they put that bloody roar out) because they did ganesha in a fighting game first AND had it hit the shelves.

Hi… Arrax

I feel bad about your concept that u r goning to make a holy person a fighter…
well it is good if u create Lord Ganesha as a God only…
please give respect to all God (Ganesha or Jesus)

well Best of luck …if u do respect…
By the way r u Hindu…if not how u came to know about him… plz tell me…

Hi Vikasumit.

I do respect the Hindu Religion, and I am not going to change Ganesh into a stereotypical fighter. I will try to model him as he currently is. I will try to make him look divine and merciful.

No I am not Hindu. I am Persian, born in Iran but I live in Sweden. Ive been in India once though.
I thought about doing a Persian character at first. My first thought was about doing Xerxes or Cyrus who are both historical characters. But later I ended up with Gods and Persian Dieties. In the end i guess i was just Googling around when i though about Ganesh. Ive read about different religions in and out of school so I do have a little knowledge about them.
