GAC #11: Gabriel the Archangel

Hello All,

There are a lot of great ideas out there, and I was not sure as to what I should do. But with a lot of consideration I decided to make Gabriel the Archangel. The Idea was given to me by my girlfriend who is a big Prophecy Fan, and when she told me I knew that this is what I wanted to do.

My concept (which I will post in a little bit) will be based on Christopher Walken’s character in the movie (Neo-Goth), as well as some reference to historical images, and being the huge FF fan that I am, I will add a touch of Final Fantasy.

Age: Infinite
Location: Heaven’s Battle Field
Birthplace: Eternity
Weapons: Power of God
Description: A General of God’s Army, his powers are unmatched, and unimaginable. He moves swiftly and strikes with deadly precision. His moves will comprise of quick dives from flight, tornado winds, and heavenly spheres.

I must tell you that I am very excited about this project, and I hope that everyone will enjoy my work. Again I hope to get a few concept works up real soon.

Very nice idea. I like Prophecy a lot (and all Christian mythology based movies/books etc.). I like FF style too, and I cannot wait what You’ll show us :buttrock:

This is my concept work; this is the look I have decided on.

Feedback is appreciated and taken into consideration, I hope you like it. I am going to do my orthographic images, and then the modelling begins!!

The anatomy, costume design, and color palette could all use a lot of work I think. Specific things to think about and address in consecutive drafts:

A) How does he put his shirt and trenchcoat on?

B) Why is an archangel, one of the most powerful beings in the universe, adhering to fashion trends that are otherwise pursued by lonely 15 year olds (and, of course, 80s rock stars)?

C) Gray shoes with a black belt is a major fashion faux pas :wink:

D) Why are there holes in his wings but none anywhere else on his person?

E) Is his sword detecting orcs nearby? An archangel should have a truly badass sword - a powerful, aggressive handle and hilt combined with an awesome, firey blade!

F) Is your character good or evil? Rather than setting up some irony or contrast, it looks like the sword design just doesn’t match the rest of the character. If he is going to be looking like a bad guy, then he needs a sword to match. Otherwise, we the viewer need some more visual hints as to his former "good"ness.

G) Angel or not, he needs a bigger crotch. Anatomy, anatomy, anatomy! And on that note, how do his wings work? They look mostly like bat wings, but they lack the skeletal structure seen in nature. Giving the wings a more authentic appearance will lend your character credence and strengthen the design!

Keep working on it - you’ve chosen a great character, but it would do you a lot of good to work out a better design on paper before you start slapping polys on him!
