Character: Tadodaho [also known as Adadarho] - Evil Spirit of Tadodaho of the Onondaga Haudenosaunee - a former Iroquoian Warrior Chieftan and alleged Sorcerer

Background: According to tradition and history passed on through generations, Tadodaho (Adadarho) was the warrior chief of the Onondaga Nation, the least numerous of the nations that formed the Iroquois Confederacy or more appropriately, the League of the Haudenosaunee - of which, Tadodaho and the Onondaga were the last to join. The initial opposition to the plan of unity from a powerful Onondaga war chief Tadodaho was great and is the making of a legend. He was said to be the embodiment of evil, an individual who had woven snakes into his hair to intimidate all in his presence, sometimes labelled a sorcerer who had sommand of the winds, and he had no interest in supporting a league dedicated to peace. The Peacemaker and Hayehwatha despaired of ever converting him until they voiced their concerns to Jikohnsaseh, a woman chief of the Cat (or Neutral) Nation. She suggested that he could be won over by being offered the chairmanship of the Great League. When the nations assembled to make their offer, Tadodaho accepted - in turn, Hayehwatha combed the black snakes out of Tadodaho’s hair, banishing the evil. Yet through his life there was an uneasy spirit about Tadodaho. He kept the evil at bay only to have it meet with him post-mortem, where he tormets himself and others along his afterlife journey.
