GAC#11 - Edward Thatch (a.k.a. Black Beard)

#21

Well…back in action after the holidays and this is what I got so far.

#22

Excellent work - one of my favourites.
I love the concept - its so chunky and beat-em-up-y :bounce:
His proportions dont seem quite as effective on the model you have so far though. The size of his head makes him appear more childlike and much less menacing.

Keep it up!

#23

Andy - yea…point taken…always good to get fresh eyes on it, and now that you mention it, is head does seem really big. It is now on my official “to do list” of things to fix. Thanks. I worked on him more last night and got the arms done as well, so hopefully i can make some renders today and post em up.

Looking ver nice so far. The hat is great and I love the volume of the pants.

Are you still going to give hima beard? It is looking a bit young, but good job none the less!

#25

Dmonk - yea, he’s still gonna get a beard…black beard without a beard would be pretty dumb, but thats gonna go in last. Its gonna prolly be pretty large and bushy like in the concept, so i didnt want it to get in the way when i was trying to model everything else.

#26

OK - slight update:

#27

-Oops. double post

#28

this is looking great ehulser. great concept and really tight modelling. only thing that jumps out at me so far is that the distinction between his chest and shirt needs to be sharper (especially in the sub patch versions). keep it coming.

cheers

Obelisk - Yea, I havent added creases in the subd’s, his boots end up weird too. Those are mainly for tests at the moment, when the model is 100% finished I’ll go through and finish up all the Sub-D’s and high poly stuff for a normal map hopefully Thanks.

I like it. Great model, and very nice technic. One thing, that his left arm(from the viewer side) should be bigger( in my opinion). hand is bigger then the rest of arm. And You could make few more details on the trausers. Anyway looks great, al character is awesome. Some ideas of the final render?? Maybe on the bottom of flag-staff?? With spyglass keeping on the hand??. oks I shall shut up, its Your topic
Keep it on, great job.

Your concept sketch is absolutely wonderful, it gives a feeling that really suits the character, and I’m kinda surprised about how far and different is your 3D model from your concept sketch. I mean, the proportions of the guy are totally different… It might be because of his pose, but his head looks much bigger (maybe because of the beard not here for now), his hands and arms seem too thin and weak (compared to the sketch) and his legs too short.
Well, that might just be me, but I think the overall feeling given by your concept sketch is not present in your 3D model.

No offense, just my 2 cts.

Some very impressive work. I really dig the concept art, especially the exagerated muscle shapes and forms. Very capcom like.

One thing about the legs. You might want to do some test rigging to see if he’ll be easy to pose. I’ve always had problems posing characters with thick legs and usually have to change around some of the loops to compensate, especially where the knees are.

Anyhow, just a suggestion before you start spending all that time unwrapping and texturing.
