GAC 11: Captain Hook

#1

I decided to take a stab at Captain Hook. I’ve been working on some concepts and I’ll post them up soon. I’m gonna try and stray away from the Disney and Hook versions and have a darker look and feel to him. I’m taking some influence from actor Micheal Wincott, the guy with a cool voice who was in 1492, Prince of Theives, and The Crow to name a few.

Just reserving the spot…be back soon with some art.

Most people know the tale of Peter Pan and Neverland and such, so I’ll just skip to where and how the world is, as pertaining to my design of Hook.

Story: The lost boys live in terror. Captain Hook and his pirates are constantly hunting and slaying Peter Pan’s pitiful rabble of neverending youngsters. Peter has traveled off world (again) in the effort to bring aid to his “lost” cause. Unfortunately, Peter’s plan backfired when the news of a place where you never grow old was found more interesting than saving little boys. A slew of villians ended up capturing Peter while he was crying about his shadow, and forced him to take them to Neverland. Now Neverland is in utter chaos… Many pirates were killed along with the boys. These new comers each have their own unique fighting style, weapons, and technology.

Captain Hook is not standing idley by. He is fighting despartely to maintain his leadership and to rise to the challenge of quelling this new threat. Hook’s love for war and “hand” to hand combat is finally being realized in a way he could only dream of. Much blood will be shed before the day that will proclaim the new “Ruler of Neverland”. (kind of pointless to make up a story, but fun anyway)

Description: Captain Hook is a master of the sword and quite skilled in the ways of imposing fear and wet pants on little boys. He lost his left hand to an alligator whilst nearly throttling Peter Pan…always flying away, such a pansy. Not turning his loss into a weakness, Hook fashioned a hook, (attached all the way up at his shoulder to relieve some of weight, add some defence, and add power to his strike). He soon found the alligator that maimed him (and gave him his name), and stabbed it to death. Hook made a fashionable necklace of teeth as well as a pair of pants before burning the rest of it as an offering to his missing hand. Hook also installed a time piece for an eye patch because he was sick of people asking him what time it was…(sort of a cruel joke based on his lost hand…the alligator swallowed a clock as well) When a pirate was stupid enough to ask that question, Hook would lift the fool up with his hook arm, ask him to look at the “second” hand, wherin he would pull out his rapier and rapidly impale them with it. (a common throw based move in-game)

Age: Unknown, but looks about 40
Weight: 165lbs, not including weapons/hook
Height: 6’1
Weapons: Hook arm, rapier

Alright, time to lay down my semi-rough concept of oh captain, my captain. I’m still playing with the idea of a hat and the way the hook works. Any thoughts?

I think the idea is pretty solid and the concept sketch looks fantastic. In the sketch though, it looks like he’s lost both his hands? That might just be the way I’m interpreting it. Other than that, I really like the worn and and tattered look you seem to have given him. I’m also liking the idea of him FINALLY slaying that stupid 'gator.

As for some other ideas - you could have wear a captured Tinkerbell around his neck as well or maybe in a small jail cell fashioned in his arm. That might be over doing it though.

I’ll be watching this one. I thought about doing hook myself so I’m very curious to see what you come up with.

He needs a hat! The hat makes the pirate, and could also serve as another weapon.

#5

Very nice ramstar…oh and get on aim cause we all want to know what the “Egyptian Thunder” is up to.

#6

I see ol ramstar has shown his face again. I was thinking about joining this little adventure of a contest, and I guess I definitely have to now because I can’t have you showing up. HAHA. good to see you again and great idea so far. Keep up the good work, and give me a call sometime.

Also, looking at your hook, it needs more detail put into it. whether it’s an elaborate design engraved on it or a more interesting shape to it. And people, don’t laugh at me for that. There are many interesting shapes that can be used for a boring ol hook.laughs

wes- thanks for your comments. He does actually have one hand, in a black glove dealy that isnt shown in the pic. I really like that idea of a captured Tinkerbell, I will see if I can find a cool way to incoporate that…maybe modify the sword or hat so he can float or something because of her pixie powers and such. or add her in his hook arm deal like you were saying… good thoughts.

runefall - yes indeed, a hat is in the works now, serving as a weapon is also a cool idea…trying to figure out a non-cliche way to do it.

gyzer - haha, good to hear from you oh son of Abraham.

gust - nice too see that you’re hovering around these parts as well. You should defintely hop on this cool contest. I’m sure you could come up with some great concepts. And yeah, I agree about the hook, I’m definitely not finished with that design yet. It is pretty bland as is, thanks for pointing that out.

Haha in the other post i meant to say ‘I can’t have you showing me up’ not i can’t have you showing up. anyways, i’d like to see your ideas with the hat. It seems like your version of hook works fine without one, but then again, any idea can be worked in. Hurry up and get more work posted! Where’s mine you ask? I have plenty concepted. just need to install my scanner again. I figure I’ll mess with Mulan some.

Hey Ram and Gust, one of the former Bobolo-nians has started up a new forum for the displaced AIPX’ers, at:
