GAC #11 - Akuma (Street Fighter)

#1

I’m gonna give this a shot. This is my first try at a contest.

Akuma the evil brother of Gouken, Ryu and Ken’s master. He has been wondering the Earth killing all who would be brave or foolish enough face his furry.

Akuma has no Mercy, he fights to kill not for pride or honor he has a single minded goal…purification of weakness.

The more he fights the stronger he becomes he has evolved to the point of physical deformation. He is becoming the physical manifestation what was thought to be his delusion.

Only that it never was a delusion… He is a demon.

Akuma is a simple looking fighter, he doesn’t care about jewelery or being clean. He’s doesn’t care about anything except the elimination of weakness.

New concept

current WIP.

he looks alright but the horns make him look more like an ifrit from final fantasy. it’s like he’s ready to do ‘hellfire’ (or whatever ifrit’s thing was) instead of a shingokusatsu. maybe play up the vaporous fire that always loomed around him in the games instead of horns? certain japanese characters burning in his skin (that one symbol always burned on the back of his gi when he did something) just a couple thoughts.
and despite the character having his priorities, usually akuma has those ‘prayer’ bead things. adding something like that (maybe a more exaggerated version of them?) might make him stand out a bit more, as right now he’s lacking a bit of detail.
akuma’s one of my favorites. can’t wait to see what you do with it

kool, I’ll try to think something up…

Also I might change his story because it’s not totally accurate with the actual story from the games.

Also, I never played Final Fantasy so I don’t know what character you are talking about.

do you have a picture of one?

http://www.riffus.com/gf-ifrit.jpg (sorry that first one didn’t work)
there’s an idea of what they kind of look like. i think it’s mostly the color scheme. they kinda varied from game to game.

as for akuma’s story, you got it from what i can see. he just sort of showed up lol so they didn’t really have that thorough a story for him, but then again most of the sf characters’ origins are pretty basic (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Im an Akuma fan aswell. Though i didnt know he was Ryus Evil brother. I thought he was Ryus teachers brother, and he even killed him if im not wrong.

He is a cool fighter. And i agree with Ill_logic. Dont forget the beads!

#6

You misunderstood the like I wrote.

I said he’s the brother of Ryu and Ken’s master.

So he’s the brother of the master of ken and Ryu.

I’ll change the wording though so it’s more clear.

OK added the beads, gloves and characters.

I think I’ll have 3 levels for this guy like in this image.

(EDIT) image moved to first post.

#8

Lol sorry Gabe. My mistake. Funny mistake since Ken’s last name is Masters.

It would be fun if you made the chibi version of Akuma. He is also cool!

#9

Nice sketch man. Maybe its me, I havent played SFII in a while now. But he still looks very much like the original akuma right now.

I think the scars/prints on his body are a step in the direction of making him your own unique interpretation. He could use more of that kinda makeovers imo.

#10

The different things on him right now are the markings all over his torso, the horns, no shirt and the pants.

I gave him Aikido Hakama’s instead of Karate pants.

I’m kinda stuck on ideas, I don’t want to make him look complex or overly ornate.

I could make his hair loose without the hair band. Get rid of the gloves and maybe his sandals.

I think I’ll make another sketch and post it tomorrow. He might end up looking sort of like a dragon ball character with the long hair.

I started modeling the head tonight, I’ll have it up tomorrow.

What about exploring other fashions as well? Akuma in plain modern street clothes, or in a WW2 Japanese military BDU. Take a look at DOA and the vast array of alternate costumes for the characters…because, and sorry for being so blunt, in you sketch he looks like Akuma but with horns taped on…

you always have really great suggestions for other people’s work [that is why Akuma with horns seems reserved coming from you…]
sometimes we all have trouble carrying that critique over to our own work…

#12

Hmmm, maybe something like this

http://www.tekken-official.jp/tekken5/character/jinpachi_e.html

I want to keep him looking traditional.

I came up with a new head design, it hardly even looks like him any more.

#13

to me, the coolest Akuma moment was in SF movie when he had a quick cameo…and the cameo was of him just sitting there…it had a lot of attitude and leaves the imagination up to the viewer…

but I am weird.

Here’s a little bit of work I got done last night.

I guess this goes back to me wondering why we don’t stress the “historical figure” more and the capcom fighter aspect less when chosing characters. Looks like this is gonna turn into something I’ve already seen before many times over.
Why not chose someone and make him INTO akuma?

Like make Charles Lindberg with the Akuma beads and red hair or something  he’s a boring subject, I realize that, but I’m just trying to spark your imagination.

#16

I’ve never been much in to History and I love fighting games so I went with what I like.

If it was limited to only History then I’d go with some one like the Wright Brothers maybe and have them be a tag team.

#17

nice sketch, i like face too.
I don’t like that big necklace, it looks strange on him… my opinion

Anyone have tutorial for face modeling, like he started? tnx

#18

just start out with 1 poly on the inner outline of the eye, then spread out from there.

Extrude, shape, Extrude, shape…

3Dtotal.com has a tutorial for modeling a girl that’s pretty much the same way I model.

#19

gabe i got to tell ya it looks great ,looks like very powerful character strong face expression!

@ArYeS , check out this great tut by Julian , this is the best tut imo for modeling head,
i also use this method, think its the best way for modeling .
