I Found myself a new problem.

When I am trying to set up the scene in maya I need the film aperture for the camera (or thats at leat what the gnomon tutorial says) but I cant find it. Any hints or experience with this?

this is the best camera info page I have found for my camera:
Camera Info - Canon MV750i

#22

Some camera trackers can automaticly figure out the aperture all by their lonesomes.

#23

Yeah, but my shoot are on a tripod with no movement at all, so there are no paralax for the matchmovver solver to look for, so it will not work, or so I have been told.

But after calling Canon and having some friends help me out with some math (Man, I whish I could do the higher class math at my school, but im not that bright:P ) and a bit of testing I found something that worked OK

Any updates?
I am really looking forward to seeign what you guys are cooking up.

Whoho, I am back from the dead, or at least back.

Working on the animation, but my as my animation skills are kind of non existing I used a rigid body simulation as a base and modefyed it a bit.

Let me know what you think.

you’re doin that in maya, right?

I’don’t know how it is in maya, because i use max, but i wouldn’t suggest using riggid bodies for that. i would recomend animating it by hand. and using a freeformdeform mod( if this exists in maya) so you have better car demolition and more controle.
i like your idea, and would like to help if i may:)

If you really want to use riggid body, than you have to give the car more mass because the second bounce of the car is to high and to slow. this looks unnatural…
the wheel in your animation is jumping before the car hits…why??
as i see, the wheel is separately animated, right?
Perhaps, you should link the wheel in position to the car, till shortly before the collision, and then link it to world(this is how it works in max)so, it has no more motion influence exept the velocity from the last frame. and then let the riggid calculation begin from the last frame in which the wheel is linked.let it also collide with the car, so it does not jump trough it.

lokking forward to your next post:)

Thanks for the comment

It is not all rigid bodys, but I used it as a base. The wheel and the second jump, as well as all deformation is handkey, the problem is that I am not much of an animator.

I will try to improve it. Also working on adding smoke to the front of the car as it stops. You know, the kind of stuff that commes from a destroyed car, not sure if it smart/going to look good, we will see I guess

#29

You could always try the cloth>rigid bodies switch if you don’t want to key the deforms.

Not much time left now, so I guess I better show that I am alive.

I am finished with everything except composition, which I am not really good at, and would really like some imputs.

Here are a screen from nuke:

Hope for ideas to improve it some more pefore deadline.

#33

Well, here is my almost finished clip. Not sure if I will have more time to work on it before the deadline, so herer it is.

I was originaly planning to do more shots, so the one I ended up doing was suposted to not be that long, but to be cliped right after the car hits. So, there dude walking kind of stops, as therer are no more frames of live fotage. I will try to fix that a bit, by holding some frames.

A great thanks goes to mohd which helped me out with rendering. He set up all the passes for me, so I was only left to press the render button. Thanks man.

Software used on this one is:

  • Maya 7
  • Nuke
  • VideoMach 2.7.2

I am glad for all the experience I gained from this one, I got to do everything expect rendering. I got to try to film, edit, take reference pioctures, hdri pictures, editing, 3d, 2d and so one. I did a lot of mistaks and so on, but than I know that for the next time.

There are still some things which should have been done in nuke, but not sure how to do it, I should for sure atleast have soften the edges of the car, to try to remove the black edge around it.

Here is a screen from nuke:

Here is a sample frame:

Here you can download the “final” clip. Please leave a comment, as I am eger to see what you guys think.

Thanks for all inputs and all so far, looking forwards to the next challenge:)

EDIT: A big thanks goes also to some of my friends:
Ken Robin - The star
Torstein - The star the first time I tryed to film
Jesper - Helped me out with some editing

H3ro that is really funny and very cool. Two minor things bothered me; the car bounces like it is very light, and the actor almost acts scared like he doesn’t know he’s going to be fine.
Overall good job!

#35

Velk: Thanks for the comment. Nice to get some feedback. I agree with out, the car looks a bit light. I was having a hard time trying to make it look real. The reason he looks scared is because I asked him to look that way. It was supposed lo look like he did not know he had the super powers, but it does not show that well.

#36

Ah, that makes sense. I like the concept, finding out you have superpower under duress. Maybe if it was a little longer, where he stood there frozen for several seconds, then checked himself over for damage as the car is smoking…

Great job again.
