FXWars! Flying Car, Fighthall, VFXShot

hmm… Never done any comps before so I’m going to give this one a good try.

Going for an old fashion steampunk style car (1936 car). A 20 sec animation.

Nonetheless got a good week before vasity hits again so ill see if i can get most of the gritty stuff done before I use vasity compositing tools.

#2

Got the car started, based on the 1936 Duesenberg:

Hey fighthall, I like the fact that you are going for an older car here! The modeling doesn’t look too great just yet, there are quite some bumps in the side… Maybe you can post a wireframe of the car to crit?

Good luck on the competition

#4

hmm, yes its quite bumpy, just working on that a lot. Well I’ve been working on it non stop this afternoon and this is it so far.

Thanks i’ll need all the luck i can get! haha

#5

Well, as already said, the model is a little bumpy.
But in reality these kind of car surfaces are just bumpy.

I think if there are all details, shader/ textures, light, enviroment, you´re SteamPunk Duesenberg will rock the house

Good luck, rasher73

Hey guys, Just something I’ve been playing around with, what you see here is the rear boiler, lighter and gas canisters. Also all the piping for the rear two steam jets.
Im going to be playing around with the boiler for a while and add some holders for the pipes.

#7

Hey Guys, been busy with other assingments, so this is what I managed to get done so far. Hope you like how things are going? any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks.

#8

looks quite neat …

#9

Yes, I’ll agree. It looks quite neat. Keep it up!

#10

Thanks guys, appreciate it… :applause:

Anyway heres most likely the the final model. Still I need to do all the animations ie: steam, moving gears etc. also the textures needs doing… plus I need to take footage of the industrial site I found. 2 weeks to go… oh dear… haha

Hope you like and thanks for checking this out

#11

that is really cool.

You going to do some post old film effects as well?

#12

great! I love the model. I’m curious about the final version.

#13

Wow thanks guys!

The final version will have a old fashion film effect, black and white (dated film style).
Here the setting will be in an industrial area, wish I could post a photo but the day I was there, there were modern cars parked along the road.

I’m aiming to create a test flight, but during the flight test, the vehicle will explode from heat. so about 20 sec animation with the steam, gears moving and then the explosion.

The only gripe I have is whether or not I should add sound. I’m thinking of using an old film projector sound only…

#14

Hey fighthall, funny thing, i had the same idea about the car exploding while testing it
How are you let things explode, by dynamics or keyframed?

But in my animation everything goes OK, nobody dies, hehe…

#15

haha whats a test flight without an explosion! lol …

Well I’m thinking of using both, the parts will be key framed so i can get an accurate blow out, but the flames and explosion will be dynamic.

The explosion will occur from the back engine, it will pop some flames then the pressure will build and then explode. Then the bonnet will flip out and come hurdling towards the camera.

#16

Cool, i hope you can do it right in time, good luck…

Hey everyone!
Heres B&W pics of the top exhaust smoke and steam, also iv’e basically done the textures.

Also is a clip of the running of the vehicle with smoke and steam from the top, no textures are present there though.

Length: 5 Secs, 500k

Thanks for checking!

Hey everyone, I’ve been struggling in getting the plate I wanted due to the presence of modern cars there. So I have been looking around and found this picture on Flickr:

What do you guys think? It’s a fantastic photo, but I need to photoshop it, make it a bit lighter, get rid of the few people on the side.

Thanks.

#19

Hi fighthall

Why make it brighter, the look and brightness from that photo is great.
The short about your Steampunk is also great.
I already see it composed in the photo

It would be cool if you make a “Sin City” look.
Some black&white and a few choosen colors, like the picture has already.

I hope you finish your stuff, cant wait to see a little steampunk explosion… greets from rasher73
