Future of 3D-animation

#1

Where do you think 3D-animation is heading? Pixar and Disney has animators pulling the threads on their characters and therefore taking on the role of actors. Their animation is in the style of the nine old men of Disney, where characters may resemble humans but they’re obviously cartoony; in their movements and in their looks. The 12 principles of animation sounds, too me, like 12 ways to make people believe it is real. What will happen when you can make it “real”?

As motion-capture is becoming better and more available, will there still be need for animators, when real actors can just plug into the matrix of mo-cap and do it more realistically?

But is “real” really what animation is looking for?

Feel free to let your mind wander on the future of animation! I hope my post doesn’t sound too pesimistic, it’s just that I love animation and hope to be able to make a living out of it and I’m interested in your looks on its future!

yeah hand animation is here to stay… you can’t mocap toony stuff like what disney and pixar do, not a chance. so sorry about this but this thread is sort of pointless

I’m glad to hear this thread is useless, because I really don’t want mocap to replace toony animation! But do you think toony animation will be as popular as mocap get cheaper and more available?
