Fumefx - what have I messed up with the smoke

#1

Hey all,

As they say, a picture says 1000 words and my picture attached says mistake 1000 times.

This is a wavelet render and the details are all too weird in the smoke. Based on the sim settings attached in the image also can anyone spot what I need to do to turn this into a more realistic looking smoke plume… I have really ballsed this one up.

Thanks for any ideas.

You introduce a lot of chaos in your sim, not only is your vorticity pretty high you also have a bit of turbulence. Just FYI velocity dampening is an utlra sensitive param, be careful with it, you can easily ruin a sim with it.

So, try a sim with just turbulence, then try one with just vorticity, then one with only vel. dampening. Notice how each parameter impacts your simulation, then balance it out.

You probably would be better off with a higher smoke dissipation too, get rid of the fluffy unstructured shapeless smoke

Cheers, appreciate the info in the answer.

I will rework it all tonight.

Thanks.
