FumeFX simulation/render problem (dots)

#1

I posted this problem last week in [probably] the wrong forum area, so I’m trying again here…

I’m building clouds in Max using FumeFX and have encountered a problem which I can’t find anywhere on the net.

… as you can see, I’m getting strange white dots when rendering or simulating. I was following the Allen Mckay tutorial on how to make clouds, but his doesn’t render with this problem.

Any ideas what is doing this?

They look like particle seeds to me, ie high density spots of smoke. It looks like you are emitting particles with some relatively high density smoke emission and your Render->Smoke->Opacity settings are relatively low. You can see through your cloud, which means you can see your emitters. You can tweak the Smoke Opacity AFC curve to thin it out a bit or just stop emitting smoke before your the beginning of your first render sequence frame.

Of course, it is only guess given the limited information you provided about your setup. Sorry, no I haven’t watched his tutorial.

Thanks for the reply Johnny.

I’ve been tweaking it all afternoon with little progress by maxing out the opacity for test purposes and altering the falloff points. But I’m going to give your advice a shot, adjusting the curves and seeing if that helps. I might also see what happens if I change the size variation parameters.

I’ll make an update if there’s anything resembling a solution!

I can’t quite remember if I did find a solution, but I do remember questioning if the issue was related to the scale of the cloud I was trying to create. I think if the cloud is too big, it’ll struggle to produce best results. Might be completely wrong - it was a bit of a while ago now, but it might be worth a shot?

thanks Sir I will try to experiment with this idea…
