FumeFX: Help a begginer to improve!

#1

Hello! well i have started to block out my idea, and well you can look at it her:

Hers a render whit the body on:
http://vimeo.com/4561876

And here is one whit the body off:
http://vimeo.com/4562195

Well i dont know if i wold go to show the horse or not… Well how shall i go ahead if i like the holl body to be of fire? Not on fire if u know what i mean  Like the body is a big flame.

Rigth now i have maped a uv map that emits more fuel from the leg, neck and tail. And as far as the neck looks its looks pretty good i think.

Well what can i do to improve? Body on or body off? Shall i texture it and put some propper ligthing on ? Or shall i try to get the flames inside the body as the whole thing is made of fire?

I like the full body of fire  But how do i do that? :open_mouth: Some1 like to tips me?

One more thing… i dont like the Tail that mutch how can i improve that? Set up a particel-system and emit fire there to get it a more fluid result or what do you recomend

Well all is low quality now but its not that high res and i havent spent alot time whit tweking it.

The full body of fire is cool, but you gotta do something more interesting with the shader, make it more contrasty. You could emit separately from the tail and the mane, and the places above the hooves.particle sources would give you plenty control. You could aslo just render the body as a matte, that could be nice. And fix you animation, it’s very important. Right now the transfer of the weight from the body to the hooves to the ground is missing.

Yeah shader i will fix  Well there is alitel of wheagth there looks good in maya but i migth set it up a bit more to sell the effect eaven more.

The real question is, well it looks okey now. but i have the feeling its just emitning from the outside of the horse, if i whant the inside. All of it like a big flame if u know what i mean

Here i have fixed the shader some more, added alitelbit of smoke. And its medium res, tok about 1.5 hours to simulate.

http://vimeo.com/4574414 (Well its renderd at 320 x 240 cus of my slow computer)

Need to make the container bigger. Ill try to render out 1 whit a floor maybe cus the solid background the weight isnt showing upp that good.

Becous you mean the move ment when the horse is coming down and landing on the ground rigth?

Thanks for the anser!

Look at the torso - it’s staying the same height throughout the animation, that’s why it feels like hanging  I’d do that with multiple grids, make separate ones for the mane and tail definitely.

#5

oh thanks ill try to split in to multi-Fume-contaiers. I did re-animate it so now it move more upp and down, i also looked over the tail so it looks more fluid.

Anyway… Now i have a map that is basicly dark-grey all over the body exept the head (hair) and the legs and tail.

Well Shall i do likte this ? container for the body, Emit eaven whit fire all over, Creat 1 container for the back hair and 1 for the tail ?

Shall i paint a compleat back and white for the Hair and the tail then? so i can blend it togheter easy in comp, or what way shall i go?

Edit: this is how i have it set-up now:

And this is what ill will try whit

Make a big container for the body, but for the detailed parts you need separate containers, will be more efficient. I’d use particle sources for the hair parts

#7

Thanks Glacierise i’ll try that out! Well im pretty new to max and all, im a maya user.

When you say emit particels, shall i make a particel system parent to the hair part that emit in the direction of the “hair” ?

Shall de real surface of the body emit heat and particel like fuel? Or shall it be compleat seperated from the body and just try to match it togehter?

Edit: maybe ill shall emit basic fuel and heat from the aria of the hair and then add a particel system that emit some extra fuel in the direction of the hair ? :open_mouth:

i’m realy thanksfull for you ansers!

Nobody can give you a recipe, but i’d try with particles that can give it more of a hairy, tendrily look. Experiment and you’ll find something that works

#9

hehe im fully awear of that  What im asking for is not precisly just like a good starting tips, a kick in the but :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, ill try some sim and send up some results for tomorrow

Thanks

Eh Eh. A bit overwelming all those questions :scream:
Would be easier if you made up your mind on what you want to achieve creativly, and then people can help out with the technical aspects of it, otherwise is just a guess.

A while ago I did a dragon made of fire, u can check it out on my CGPortfolio. I used both, particles and meshes, as Fume emiters, as Glacierise suggested above.
The trick I used to keep the whole thing from turning into a big ball of fire, was to use a very high burn rate on the fire, around 90 I think,to keep the flames very short and help define the shape of the dragon, and then also using a high dissipation on the smoke. Smoke was rendered with the same color as the fire, so I could get some nice swirly movement but still look like fire.

Good luck.

Hehe i realced that… im a bit stressed out

Well your dragon, its exactly that im trying to acive! (get done). Rigth now i have fairly low burn-rate just to get the long flames, but your sounds better realy! I’ll get the define of the body and still some nice looking flames that brust out!. First some sleep

And i’ll try to slow down at the questions hehe!
