Fumefx Explosion with particle driven shockwave

#1

Hey all,

since I am pretty new to Fumefx I have a fairly simple question:

I created an explosion (thanks to a thousand tutorials on the net) and after searching quite long I even found a tu how to make a cool shockwave with fumefx and PFlow…

Now: Can I simulate both parts (explosion and shockwave) in one Fumefx grid or do I necessarily have to use one grid for the Shockwave and another one for the explosion?

Dont laugh at me… its hard to get into all that stuff without asking :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks in advance =)

For the most control you use 2 grids, this way you can set different smoke/fire colour, temperature voxel size, etc… The drawback is now you need to simulate the explosion, then the shockwave, and when you open one sim in the preview window you don’t see the other. It can get a tad confusing.

The benefit is you can sim a huge detailed explosion and take forever, but then sim a less detailed shockwave quickly.

Do it in separate grids. In a real situation, you almost never end up with just one grid - every cool effect has several elements that you need to combine, and since you can’t vary sim settings inside a single grid, you do it in multiple grids.

thank you very much guys… after sitting behind my screen for almost 36 hrs now and after endless attempts to get it done I even checked it out myself… but well, the whole thing looked crappy so for the next days I will probably get away from the particles again and try to finish my car animation (or at least start with it  before I start something new…

but good to know that we have a good working community here and further more some real pros who care about noobish worries like mine  thanks, thanks, thanks!!! =)
