Fumefx CRASH !!! Is so annoying .

#1

I am using Fumefx 1.2 with 3ds max 2010 and whenever I simulate something that looks good It crash I’ve tried to lower the spacing but It doesn’t help my procceser Is Intel dual core 2 and my ram is about 2 g and my simulation is up to 800 - 1024 mb .
thats it I hope someone can help me .
Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Essa khamis.

I am going to say it is a memory issue that is causing your sim to crash most likely. I would first try running a simulation with your voxel grid set to something like 20x20x20 and go up from there. If it starts to crash as you increase the grid then you can probably attribute it to running out of memory.

2g of ram these days is on the lower end of where you want to be ideally when doing anything like Fume, Krakatoa, or anything particle or simulation based. On the last project I was on we were using 32gigs of ram and it seemed sufficient enough to handle pretty much any fume sim we could throw at it. Even if you can’t go to 32gigs, increasing it as much as you can will only help.

Hope this helps

Thanks alot for your reply will Good luck for me on getting 32 gigs ram  .

How do you know it looks good, if it crashes :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeh as already said you could be running out of ram, or a combination of a low PC and low memory. Is your container large? or do you have really low spacing?

#5

I know It looks good because it does simulate about 50 frames or 34 in some cases . is 1 for the spacing amount good ?

#6

It definitely sounds like a memory issue. As for spacing, its a relative issue… meaning it is totally based on your scene scale. Ideally for detailed simulations you want a grid size greater than say 250-300. Again these values depend on your scene and the dimensions of your container. (Obviously if your container is a rectangle you can’t have all grid dimension be the same value. i.e. 300x180x180 or something like that.)

So try your sim again but increase your spacing to 2 and see if it simulates past frame 50.

Memory is one of the cheapest things on the market these days. Spring for 100 bucks and get yourself another 2 gigs. This should fix your problem.

#8

also be sure to have enough free drive space as fumefx cashes its simulation.

Lowering the spacing wont help, on the contrary it will take up more memmory. So you should try to increase spacing instead of lowering. Bigger spacing will look worse, but it wil simulate faster though.
