fumefx and mr exposure control problem

#1

Alright so here’s my issue the fire renders black. It renders perfectly fine until I turn on the “mr Photographic Exposure Control” and set it to the “Physically Based Lighting, Outdoor Daylight, Clear Sky” preset. Now I have 2 options lower the mutliplier of my mr sun and mr sky to .01 and leave the exposure control off and have some non realistic touches or see if anyone on here has a solution to my newbie issue.

Here’s preview with my sun and sky set to .01…

Another reason I’d like to use the exposure control is because with my settings so low I can’t see anything in my perspective!! :open_mouth:

FumeFX “brightness” is in oldschool units, not physical units. You need to tweak the physical scale of the exposure control to match the brightness of the “oldschool” units w. the physical ones.

For a general sun&sky scene, a value of about 80,000 in the physical scale would be used.

You need to go to the exposure control and change the “physical scale”, so that FumeFX nonphysical “brightness” is bright enough to compete with whatever real physical lighting you have. A physical scale of 80000 is good for sun&sky.

You’ll find your fire look much more realistic under a proper gamma workflow and with a proper exposure control on it.

Hmm. Wait, looks like the “blog search” link up above has stopped working because I’ve used the word “black” in other postings.

Here is the direct link to the truly relevant post on this topic.
