FumeFX and AB shadow map: illumination map freeze

#1

I use FumeFX since many years and here is a bug I had many times since the beginning.

When I have an medium to hi-rez fume fx grid (approx 450x700x500) and I use AB shadow map on 2 lights (with raytrace shadows for object shadows), I often get the problem of the render getting frozen on the first pass of the illumination map calculation. the freeze seems to occur randomly on different frames and the more I incresase the resolution of the grid, the more it occurs to the point of occuring everytime if the rez is too large. Is there any tips to avoid that?

To get the render done I have to rerender it until it does not freeze. It sometime have to resubmit dozens of times.

(I’m rendering with scanline).

I found a way to make it render finally. I lowered the size and quality of my AB shadow maps from 256 to 128 and 0.9 to 0.8 respectively. The result look the same so far…

I thought I got it but finally I was still getting freezing render on illumination map computation starting from the middle of my animation…

BUT I finally found how to render my scene. And I will always remember now to use only RAYTRACED SHADOWS, render in scanline and use illumination with a treshold of around 5 for high rez grids. I will forget about ABshadow maps until they stop freezing.
